Problem 2 Kinetics
The decomposition kinetics of an unknown substance A is investigated. The measurement
determines the time it takes until the initial concentration of A is reduced to 10%. This is
measured as a function of the initial concentration. You observe that a five times higher
initial concentration leads to a decrease in the observed time to 4%.
Calculate the reaction rate according to the following approach:

Problem 4 Energetics
In a nanoparticle synthesis reactor ethanol is inserted via a syringe pump (2 ml/min, at
25C) and formed into a fine spray by a dispersion gas stream of 9 slm O2 (slm: standard
liter per minute). This mixture is finally burnt. The combustion is initiated by a stoichiometric premixed primary methane/oxygen flame which is known to create a heat flux of
53 kJ/min.
4.1. Give the reaction equation for the stoichiometric combustion of ethanol with pure
oxygen.
(2P)
4.2. Calculate the molar standard enthalpy of formation for ethanol at 25 from the
given net caloric value of ethanol at 25C.
4.3. Calculate the air ratio
(4P)
assuming that the fuel reacts with the dispersion gas only.
(4P)
4.4. Calculate the molar reaction enthalpy of the combustion of ethanol with the
dispersion gas O2 assuming that the reactants have a temperature of 25C
and the exhaust gases have a temperature of 127C.
(4P)
4.5. For the flow rates given above, calculate the flow of cooling water that is needed to
limit the temperature of the exhaust gases to a maximum of 127C neglecting
other heat losses and taking into account that the temperature of the cooling water
should increase by 10C only. Give the required flow of cooling water in whole

No
(same temperature for educts and products <-> Dilution has no effect).
1.2. At the lower heating value product water is gaseous. At the higher heating value it
is liquid. The higher heating value is higher due to the enthalpy of vaporization.
1.3. Increasing of T, decreasing of p, lowering the concentration of [A]. Le Chatelier
principle.
1.4. a) High temperatures, thermal NOx-formation.
b) rich combustion, soot formation
1.5. Lower explosive limit: Chain termination at the walls is faster than radical
production.
Second explosive limit. Radical production is faster as termination. Chain reaction
explosion.
Third explosive limit: Heat production is faster that heat conduction. Thermal
explosion, Semenov)
Prfung Verbrennungslehre
1.6. Ignition limits are the mixture limits within a mixture of fuel/oxygen can be ignition.
They depend on T ,p, inert gases
1.7. Quasi stationary assumption means that the concentration of radicals or other
reactive intermediates does not change with time. Ignition and termination
processes cant be explained.
1.8. The reactants must pass an intermediate state which is energetically higher than
the thermal energy available. The reaction is inhibited. The state of the system is
called frozen equilibrium.

Damit ist der Brennwert hher als der untere Heizwert die Differenz zwischen

Zweite Explosionsgrenze: Radikalproduktion ist schneller als deren Vernichtung in
