INTRODUCTION

Children Welfare Centre Nepal is a non-profit, privately owned and operated nongovernmental organisation, which was established in 1995 in Kathmandu, Nepal.
The Children Welfare Centre (CWC) was founded to provide dedicated care for children who
are orphaned, socially oppressed, helpless, or abandoned by their parents and society. Many
children at CWC originate from remote areas of Nepal where, due to dire family
circumstances, they were unable to receive adequate food, shelter or education. And, some of
them have been found wandering the streets, abandoned. CWC aims to give a future to some
of the most impoverished children in the country.
The CWC orphanage is run by women who have taken it upon themselves to make a
difference for some of the worlds most underprivileged and helpless children. CWC is based
in a clean, safe and loving home in Godawari, Kathmandu. Their main aim is to help children
regain their right to a childhood, education and love. Without this haven, the children would
be on the streets and vulnerable to the child labour and sex-trafficking industries, which are
disturbingly prevalent in Nepal.
CWC is officially registered with Government of Nepal with. It is also an active member of
the Social Welfare Council of Nepal. CWC does not receive any support from the
Government of Nepal and is not affiliated with any political organisations. Financially, it
currently relies solely on private donations.
OBJECTIVES OF ORGANIZATION
The main objectives of the Children Welfare Centre are:
To provide care, support, food and housing to the orphaned and helpless children of
Nepal, in a secure and nurturing family environment.
To ensure that these underprivileged children receive a high standard of education that
gives them the means to live a self-reliant, respectable and dignified life.
To provide vocational and technical training for the children.
To provide the children with adequate medical care.
To provide scholarships to those poor children of Nepal whose parents are able to
provide them with food and shelter but not basic education.
In addition to above objectives, the founder of CWC, Mrs. Rupa Sunar also assured that the
organization is constantly focused on enhancing the quality and scope of our program. They
aim to improve the organisation by making the fund-raising, management and program
administration more efficient. She said that the organization will continue to strengthen CWC
with improved projects and policies, as it is their sincere belief that the maximum amount of
resources should continue to directly benefit the children.

NEPALESE SCENARIO
Nepal is one of the worlds poorest countries. There are approximately 27 million people
living in Nepal, and 90% of these live in small market towns and rural villages. Nine out of
10 Nepalis depend on subsistence farming. Landslides and erosion regularly wipe out crops
and homes. Thousands of people live in the worst of conditions unable to provide for
themselves or their children. Impoverished remote villages send their children into the cities
every year to work for money. Unfortunately, these children often get exploited for their work
or go hungry in the streets. Many children starve to death each year and many work in
factories in miserable conditions for very little money.
In Nepal, childhood is something that is often robbed from innocent children. It is well
known that education is the only way to provide for a better future. This is why the Children
Welfare Centre was established. By giving shelter, food and education to the poorest children
of Nepal, we are providing our children with the means to lead self-reliant, respectable and
dignified lives. It is simply not enough to give children food and shelter. They also need a
loving environment and a good education. CWC are providing exactly this, they are
dedicated to the care and future of Nepals children and with the support of funds received as
donations and grants. This dedication seems to continue and hopefully expand to help even
more children meet their full potential.
Despite the fact that Nepal is divided into a caste system, it is a principle of the Children
Welfare Centre not to discriminate with regard to what children they accept. Their aim is to
provide a positive future for all children no matter what their background. CWC also
provides employment to people of low castes so that one day, they too, may be able to
improve their standard of living. The organization has a strong belief in equality for all
people and we strive to encourage this.
FUTURE GOALS OF THE ORGANIZATION
CWC expects huge growth in the size of the organization in the future so as to be able help
every needy child in the country. Other future goals of the organization include:
1. Continue to provide professional care for very poor children by providing quality
education and a safe environment to ensure a respectable and self dignified future.
2. Provide job skills training so that the children will be self-supportive and independent.
3. Provide scholarships for those children who are intelligent but unable to go to school
because of financial restraints.
4. Establish our own school from Nursery to Year Five (Phase 1) within the home itself.
5. Establish branches of the Childrens Welfare Center in most parts of Nepal where
the no of orphaned or uneducated children are more.
6. Provide vocational and other training to older children and other local people who are
unable to secure this for themselves.
7. Establish a vegetable garden and poultry farm on-site to promote self-sufficiency and
reduce food costs.

8. Establishment of a Sewing Training Institute - to further advance the skills of the

children, as well as provide a form of income for the Center.
9. Establishment of a Computer Training Program to respond to the ever-increasing
demand for computer skills. In this way, the childrens possibilities for employment
will be expanded and it will further their ability to stand on their own two feet.
