JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Summary:
The Educational Assistant (Regular Ed) provides classroom and other instructional support for
students and teachers.
Position Duties:
Educational Assistant (Regular Ed) duties may vary somewhat from location to location. Each
essential job function described below is within the scope of Educational Assistant (Regular Ed)
duties with actual job assignments depending on the work that needs to be done at a given time
or location.
2. Perform limited clerical and related support tasks accurately, neatly and in a well
organized and timely manner. Examples include: correcting and scoring papers; entering
student test results into computer; report cards; data entry; organizing materials;
preparing and recording outcome lists on computer; creating worksheets, awards and
study materials; preparing materials to be sent to print shop; preparing visual aides for
use in the classroom; ordering supplies and materials; using word processing software;
and assembling student records.
3. Assist with supervision of students to provide a safe environment in which learning can
take place. Examples of tasks include: intervening in student behavior problems

including disputes and quarrels; providing a positive adult role model; allow teacher to
take lunch period without interruption for disciplinary or problem solving actions;
supervising cafeteria lunch period (monitor behaviors, clean up spills, maintain order,
release at correct time); supervise recess/playground activities (monitor behaviors, watch
for safety concerns, involve health office if a student is injured); participate on class
trips; monitor classroom in teacher’s absence; attendance information recorded and
contact parents as requested.
4. Additional duties may include: assist in training of new or substitute employees; provide
backup coverage for other areas (health room, office, IMC); data entry; and assist with
school-wide projects.
Qualifications:
1. Education: minimum of a high school education is required, additional education
desired.
2. Experience: prior work with children and basic computer knowledge is desired.
2. Must be able to perform physical work, occasionally lifting more than 30 pounds
without assistance in an indoor setting.
5. Must be able to reach in all directions and bend/stoop to store and retrieve materials, use
classroom or office equipment.
6. Must have dexterity and hand/eye coordination necessary to operate the equipment used

in the job, including computer keyboard.
8. Must be able to complete job duties in an environment where some background noise and
frequent interruptions are the norm.
9. Must have the ability to maintain concentration and focus on tasks requiring timeliness
and accuracy.
