ADVERTISER HIGHLIGHT
Holmans has a long history in
SE Portland and has had a
wonderful relationship with St.
Philip Neri and our parish
members. One of the few
funeral homes left in the area
to remain a family owned
business choosing not to join
one of the large national
corporations. You can be
assured that you will receive
the same compassionate care
and experience that is their hallmark.
Holmans has a long history of supporting St. Philip Neri parish
through bulletin advertising, event sponsorship, and printing
event tickets.
Recently Phil Berger, new Prearrangement Counselor, was
invited to speak at our monthly senior gathering. Phil brought
Dan and Cameron for support and to join us for lunch. Phil talked about the importance of pre-planning especially
gathering vital statistic information needed to complete death certificates and the service they provide to keep this
information on file free of charge regardless of who provides your services can be transferred anywhere. The
information was so helpful that several members suggested a tour of their facility. Holmans opened their doors and a
small group joined them to learn more about their facilities. It is not too late for you to take advantage and learn more.
Contact Holmans to get your personal tour and information session. Or you can contact Rose in the office and she can
get you started. Thank you Dan, Cameron, Phil and staff for your welcome. We look forward to many years of
continuing partnership.

PARISH GROUPS & MINISTRIES

ADULT FAITH FORMATION
Throughout the year a variety of opportunities are offered for adults to assist in our spiritual journey. This coming
Winter/Spring we will offer Heal Relationships in Lent with Pope Francis. These once a week gatherings (large
group/small group discussions based on Laudato Si) are designed to guide us into healing relations with ourselves, each
other, with God and with creation. We will start on Monday, Feb.15, 7pm, Carvlin Hall. Also offered this WinterJanuary/February (on a Sunday afternoon) will be a panel presentation on Common Truths held by our religious
traditions. This is a Masters Practicum presenting women from the Jewish, Muslim, Protestant, Catholic, and Buddhist
traditions as they discuss our common beliefs. We have invited Bishop Peter Smith to help us with The Year of Mercy:
personal, parish and beyond. Offered on a Saturday, Bishop Smith with give the main presentation followed by group
discussion and summation. In addition, if you have four or more people---- we are always open to facilitating a Bible
Study.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION GRADES 1-6

We are happy to offer Sunday pre-school (4-5yr olds) and Childrens Liturgy of the Word (grades 1-6) during the Sunday,
9:30am Liturgy. Children are called to the Sanctuary area at the beginning of Mass, Blessed and lead to their separate
class areas. The pre-school uses a designated curricula which helps them identify God the Creator in their daily lives.
They remain in the class area until Mass is over and the parents pick them up. The CLWord is designed to help the
young people understand the Scripture Readings used in the Mass that day. They return to the main church at the
Offertory so that they can be part of the Eucharistic Table.

RCIA
(Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults): For those---Non-Baptized or Baptized in another Christian Faith--- who are
inquiring about the Catholic Faith as part of their spiritual journey. In these weekly sessions we discuss Scripture,
Catholic Traditions, Creeds, Sacraments, Mary and the Saints, Social Justice Teachings..and any issue that the
participants feel important to their journey. This is also a good transition for people who have been away from the
Catholic Faith for any period of time.

ALTAR SOCIETY
The purpose of our Society is to honor and strive to imitate our Blessed Virgin Mary along with aiding religious and social
activities of the Parish. Our members make arrangements for funeral receptions and weekly church cleaning. With
fundraising efforts such as themed raffle baskets, we maintain our worship space by providing linens, candles, wine,
hosts and vestments. Our most successful fundraiser is the Michael Allen Harrison concert which always jump starts the
holiday season. The organization is open to all women of the parish and meets on the second Tuesday of each month in
Carvlin Hall. Our meetings are a combination of contemplation, service and enjoyment. For further information please
contact, Tina Gatto Jarvis at 503-239-9055, tinagattojarvis@gmail.com or Judy OGieblyn at 971-212-4776,

stands on its own.
The group meets on the 1st & 3rd Wednesday of each month in the Paulist Center chapel, 16th & Division, on the #4 bus
