Applicability:

PROCEDURE TO BE FOLLOWED WHEN OBTAINING ON WING DFDR READOUTS USING

HONEYWELL EXTENDED HANDHELD DOWNLOAD UNIT (EHHDLU)
ALL AIRBUS FLEETS

Background:
ASN 102 issued by CAASL specifies the requirement of an annual DFDR data downloading for
parameter quality check to ensure that the recorder operates correctly for the nominal
duration of the recording. In addition, DFDR data are used for analysing abnormal events.
Instead of removing DFDR from the aircraft, on wing DFDR data downloading is possible with
a suitable tool by using it as per the AMM procedure. The tool to be connected to the front
connector of the DFDR and downloading is done while the recorder is energised.
ALK has acquired Honeywell EHHDLU DFDR Data Downloading tool (P/N 69001074-060) for
this purpose, which can be used for on wing DFDR data downloading on the Honeywell Digital
Flight Data Recorder part numbers listed in Table 2 of the Limitations section of this TN.
This TN has been issued to specify the supplementary procedure to be followed when
downloading the DFDR data on-wing using above Honeywell EHHDLU tool.

Recommendations:
When carrying out AMM tasks mentioned below, using Honeywell EHHDLU DFDR Data
Downloading tool, maintenance personnel must follow instructions for DFDR installed as
detailed in Appendix-A together with respective AMM tasks.

Readout Procedure of the Digital Flight Data Recorder
AMM task for A330 & A340 Fleet
