Chapter 1: FibreCAT SX Manager
Purpose
This composition is intended to introduce students to the basic steps required to
provision FibreCAT SX storage to a Windows Server 2003 R2 server.
Chapter 1: Use the “FibreCAT SX manager” web user interface native to the
FibreCAT SX to provision disk space by:
• creating a virtual disk (also called RAID group)
• creating a volume (also called LUN)
• assigning the volume to the server.
After that, some data is written to the volume.
Chapter 2: Use Windows Server 2003 “R2”’s native “Storage Manager for
SANs” to
• extend a volume and the file system
• create a new volume and assign it to the server.
After that, some data is written to the volume.
Special Instructions:
Before you begin, please record the IP address for the server and the FibreCAT
SX storage array that you have been assigned.

10. Select assign the LUN now. You will see your server and the Fibre Channel HBA ports.
(The HBA WWN numbers are a unique identification of the HBA port – like a MAC address for
a Network card – and are used to map the LUN to the server)
11. Press Next.

12. Now you can format the LUN, give it a name and assign a drive letter. E.g T:\.

Open the Windows Explorer and select the newly created drive. Right-click on
properties to verify the capacity.
As in Step 1-04, you can also copy and paste some data to it.
SUMMARY
