Before you begin...

Before you begin...

This document describes the system requirements and the installation process
for PTV Map&Guide intranet.
Please observe the following points before you begin the installation:

Before starting the setup, decide on how the distributed installation should
occur on multiple computers (see chapter 2.3 "Installation types" on page 10).

Make sure that all requirements are fulfilled for the installation (see chapter
2.2 "System Requirements" on page 6).

Observe the prescribed sequence for the installation. Depending on the distribution of the product components on different computers, the execution of
the setup on several computers is required (see chapter 2.4 "Installation sequence" on page 14).

Your operating system must be up to date for the installation of PTV

Map&Guide intranet. First install all Microsoft updates.

Support
You can contact our technical support at any time of day via the Support request
form (www.mapandguide.com/en/service/support/).

Installation

In this chapter you will find information about

product components
System Requirements
Installation types
Installation sequence

2.1 Product components

PTV Map&guide intranet consists of several individual components, which will be
explained in brief as follows. Which system requirements must be fulfilled for the
components can be found in chapter 2.2 "System Requirements" on page 6.
The components must be installed on different computers in a distributed manner. To do so, install the setup and the respective component on the computer of
your choice. During the setup process, you can specify paths and folders.
Note: The installation of the components must be executed directly on the chosen target computer. Remote installations or automatic software distribution are
not supported.

2.1.1 PTV xServer

This deals with a collection of software components, which offer geographic and
logistic functions. They have a modular design and due to their cluster technology, they allow for a simple scalability so that the performance requirements can
be easily guaranteed.

Installation

Four types of the PTV xServer are used in PTV Map&Guide intranet:

PTV xRoute:

Calculation of routes, emissions, toll

PTV xTour:

Trip optimisation

PTV xLocate:

Geocoding

PTV xMap:

Display of maps and customer addresses

An SMPT server is needed for the (optional) email notification about current toll
updates. This can either be a server locally installed in your network or one of the
services offered online, for example, mail.yahoo.de. The access data for the mail
delivery is stored in the administration tool (see chapter 4.3 "Enter SMPT server
access data" on page 48).
Furthermore, a so-called TI Servlet is required to view the traffic information. This
should only be installed on one computer in the system, which serves as the PTV
xServer Host. By the selection of the PTV xServer component within the setup,
you are asked during the installation if you would like to access traffic information
from the internet.
Note: An internet connection is required to access traffic information, currency
exchange rates, toll updates and orders from the freight exchange.

2.1.2 PTV Ajax Maps Server

The PTV Ajax Maps Server is a specialised PTV xMap Server, which provides and
saves the so-called background tiles of the map. This allows for a quick illustration
of the map in the PTV Map&Guide intranet web application.
A separate cache server can be installed for temporary storage. This is not a
component of the setup. Contact your PTV Map&Guide intranet consultant for
further information.

2.1.3 Database
The PTV Map&Guide intranet database requires one of the following databases
(or a more current version of the same type):

Microsoft SQL 2012 Standard

Microsoft SQL 2012 Express
Microsoft SQL 2012 R2 Standard
Microsoft SQL 2012 R2 Express
Microsoft SQL 2008 Standard
Microsoft SQL 2008 R2 Express
Microsoft SQL 2008 R2 Standard
Note: Please note that the older Microsoft SQL 2008 Express version (without
"R2") cannot be used, because this only supports databases with a maximum size
of 4 GB.
During the installation you can choose whether you want to use an existing database server. If none of the listed database versions are installed, Microsoft SQL
Server 2012 Express is automatically installed.
Note: During installation on a 32-bit operating system only the English version of
the Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Express is available.
The database must be configured for the SQL Server authentication ("mixed
mode"). If Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Express is installed through the PTV
Map&Guide intranet setup, this occurs automatically.
Note: At the time of the product approval, the licence conditions of Microsoft
SQL Server 2012 Express explicitly allow for its use in commercial products.
Only usage in commercial hosting environments is excluded. As the licence conditions of the Express editions can change on occasion, we would recommend
checking the current licence conditions and, if necessary, installing the paid version of Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Edition.

Installation

2.1.4 PTV Map&Guide intranet web application

The actual application consists of middleware and front-end components. The
web application runs within the Internet Information Service (IIS) and requires an
ASP.NET State Server for the state management. The ASP.NET State Server is
automatically enabled during the installation through the setup.
Note: The usage of other services for the state management is possible, but is not
supported through the setup. In this case, first speak with your PTV Map&Guide
intranet consultant.

PTV Map&Guide intranet Scheduler

This deals with a Windows service, which can be managed through the service
administration. This service executes time-controlled functions (trigger-based,
interval-based) in the PTV Map&Guide intranet application environment. The
service is installed together with the web application and fulfils the following
tasks:

Accessing current currency exchange rates. The requirement for access is an

active internet connection.

Geocoding of user defined addresses during the import of data into address
tables. A separate PTV xServer (PTV xLocate) is installed on the computer with
the PTV Ajax Maps Server for geocoding in order to not hinder the interactive
geocoding within the web application.

Checking of toll updates and (optional) notification by email. An active internet connection is required for the check. The email delivery requires SMTP
Server access. Access data can be entered in the administration tool (see
chapter 4.3 "Enter SMPT server access data" on page 48).

Access to truck parking spaces from Truck Parking Europe. The requirement
for access is an active internet connection.

2.2 System Requirements

PTV Map&Guide intranet can be used and tested under the following system
requirements. This does not rule out the fact that PTV Map&Guide intranet may
run under different circumstances, but subject to conditions.
The PTV Map&Guide intranet components are tested and approved for the following operating systems:

Microsoft Windows Server 2012

Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2
Microsoft Windows Server 2008
Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2
Microsoft Windows 7 (32 or 64-bit)
Microsoft Windows 8/8.1
Microsoft Windows Vista
If within the scope of a distributed installation the PTV xServer was installed on a
different computer than the PTV Map&Guide intranet, the ports listed in the following table must be opened.
The RAM specifications are found in the memory, which is also required besides
the operating system and other applications.
The hard drive specifications indicate the required free disk space.
Note: If you already use PTV Map&Guide intranet 2014 and install the new version in parallel, the system requirements increase (see chapter 5 "PTV
Map&Guide intranet 201" on page 49"). For them to work effectively, both versions should not be used at the same time as this could lead to performance
problems. For a parallel installation, we recommend using only one system for
test purposes and one productively.

Important notes
For all computers on which PTV Map&Guide intranet components are installed,
we recommend the usage of

Microsoft Windows Server 2012

multiple processors or a multicore processor in order to ideally support
the different server components. Specially for computers on which the
PTV xServer is installed, we recommend 1 CPU (core) per PTV xServer
module instance.
Example: Normally, 4 PTV xServers with the map are installed on a computer. This
computer should have 8 GB of RAM and 6 or more CPU Cores for optimal performance.
Note: Please remember that it must at least be the Standard Edition of Microsoft
Windows Server 2012/2012 R2 or Microsoft Windows Server 2008/2008 R2. The
Web Edition is inadequate.

Other
For the installation, a DVD drive is required on all computers or access
to a directory/network drive on which the contents of the installation
DVD were copied.

You must be logged in with local administration rights in order to install

the PTV Map&Guide intranet components. A remote installation is not
supported.

The minimum recommended screen resolution for the browser workspaces is 1280x1024.

An internet access is required to access traffic information, currency exchange rates, toll updates and orders from the freight exchange. During
the installation, the information for a possible proxy server is requested.
The following URLs must be enabled to access information in your proxy
server
Traffic information http://ti.ptvgroup.com

Truck Parking Europe https://truck.infinum.com

Before installing PTV Ajax Maps Server and PTV xServers, the map installation must be executed on the respective computers.

If applicable, a plugin to display PDF files in the browser must be installed to show print previews.

For the creation of PDF files, the \middleware\reporting\userdata

folder in the installation directory of the PTV Map&Guide intranet web
application (for example C:\Program Files\PTVGROUP\PTV Map&Guide
intranet 2015\middleware\
reporting\userdata) is given write permissions for all users through the
setup.

Enabling ports
For external access to the PTV xServer and Microsoft Windows SQL Server
from other computers from the distributed PTV Map&Guide intranet installation,
ports must be opened. Execute this step on the individual computers directly
after the components have been installed.

2.2.1 Browser and resolution

You can use PTV Map&Guide internet with all standard browsers. However, depending on which browser type and version you use, it is possible that not all
functions will be supported.
Note: We cannot guarantee that our program can be used without problems with
browser versions which are not shown in the list.

Internet Explorer 11, Internet Explorer 10, Internet Explorer 9

Note: Since browser versions are updated regularly, there is still no official release for the latest versions. However, up until now no compatibility issues have occurred with newer versions of Chrome.

Note: Make sure that your browser allows scripts to be executed. Specially for
Internet Explorer on Windows 2012 Server, the Enhanced Security Configuration
should be turned off if problems occur when starting the PTV Map&Guide intranet web application.

Screen resolution
Please note that the interface of the PTV Map&Guide intranet frontend has been
optimised for a minimum resolution of 1280 x 1024 pixels.

2.2.2 Add-ons
If not available, the following programs are automatically installed through the
setup.

Microsoft Windows Powershell 1.0 or higher

Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5
Microsoft Windows Installer 4.5 or higher
IIS and ASP.NET
For the PTV Map&Guide intranet web application, the Internet Information Service (IIS) and ASP.NET must be enabled. How to enable the IIS and ASP.NET is
described under the relevant installation types (see chapter 2.5 "Standard installation" on page 14 or chapter 2.6 "Minimal installation" on page 27).

2.3 Installation types

The architecture of PTV Map&Guide intranet allows for a distributed installation
over multiple computers. This allows for a simple scaling and flexible configuration in order to guarantee optimal performance even with increasing numbers of
users.
10

Installation

You need 2 computers for the minimal installation type. However, we recommend using 3 computers. Both scenarios are explained in this document.
A computer can be dedicated hardware as well as a virtualised host.
Note: For more complex distributed installations or other individual operational
concepts, please speak beforehand with your PTV Map&Guide intranet consultant.
Internet Information Services (IIS) and ASP.NET State Server are components of
Microsoft Windows or .NET-Framework. During installation, the PTV Map&Guide
intranet setup will ask you to enable the so-called "Web Server (IIS)" role in your
Windows 2012 or to install the IIS as Windows components (for example, Windows 7).
An existing ASP.NET State Server is automatically installed during setup or will be
installed during the .NET-Framework installation.

Complete after installation. The complete recovery model means that
the transaction log (*.ldf file) permanently requires more disk space.
The transaction log is automatically kept small by the automatic database backup scripts.
Important: If you did not set up the database backup, you must reset
the database recovery model to Simple manually.
To do so, open the PTV Map&Guide intranet 2015 database module
via the SQL Management Studio. Enter the following command via
New request: ALTER DATABASE
[mapandguide_intranet_2015_usermanagement] SET RECOVERY
SIMPLE WITH NO_WAIT and confirm with

2.6 Minimal installation

Notes: While specifying the computer addresses during installation, you can use
either the computer names or the IP addresses. We recommend using computer
names and only entering the IP addresses if there are problems with the name
resolution in the network.
If you copy the contents of the data carrier to the hard disk before installation,
please make sure to copy the content of DVD 1 to the directory DISK1 and the
content of DVD 2 to the directory DISK2.
The procedure for minimal installation mostly corresponds with that of the standard installation. However, only 2 computers are needed for the minimal installation, because the database, PTV xServer and web application are installed on the
same computer.
Note: We recommend the standard installation on 3 computers, because simpler
scaling is possible with an increasing number of users (see 2.3.1"Standard installation (recommended)" on page 12).

Getting Started

After you have installed PTV Map&Guide intranet 2015, you need to carry out the
following steps.

4.1 Approval
1. In order to setup your PTV Map&Guide intranet version, open the administration tool, which is found on the web application computer.
After an installation in standard directories, you can open it via the URL:
http://<Name/IP des Webservers>/mgi2015-admin/
2. Initially, enter a user name and a password for the administrator and confirm the details with Login.
Note: The selection of the language is only in regards to the current session and has no effect on other users.
The administration tool is started and then asks you to enter your serial number.
After you have added the serial number, PTV Map&Guide intranet 2015 is ready
for use.

4.2 Edit administrator data

After starting the administration tool, you have already been created as a user of
the Administrator group.
Note: We deliver two predefined groups: Administrator and standard.
In the Administrator group, all access rights to PTV Map&Guide intranet are
available. In addition, a user who is assigned to the Administrator group also has
access to the administration tool. He can therefore administrate users and
groups.
In the Standard group, all important access rights to PTV Map&Guide intranet are
available.

46

Getting Started

1. If you would like to edit your user data, select the entry in the navigator
User Management > User.
The list of the created users is displayed.
2. Double click on the created user.
3. Add your user data.
4. If you would like to be informed of toll updates, add your e-mail address
and activate the Notify of new toll updates option.

Note: The information about the new toll updates is only sent to the specified email address if you have set up an SMTP server (see chapter 4.3
"Enter SMPT server access data" on page 48).
You can create other users through the toolbar > User area >
New.
Tip: More information about creating users and working with the administration
tool can be found in the online help.

47

4.3 Enter SMPT server access data

An SMPT server is needed for the optional email notification about current toll
updates. This can either be a server locally installed in your network or one of the
services offered online, for example, mail.yahoo.de. The access data for the SMTP
servers can be entered in the administration tool.
1. Following login, select the Setup mail server entry in the toolbar of the
administration area .
The Setup mail server window will open

2. Enter the required data.

If you have already added your user data and stored an email address (see chapter 4.2 "Edit administrator data" on page 46), you can check the mail delivery by
clicking on Connection test. You will receive a test mail sent to the stored email
address.
Note: Please note that for the toll updates, an active internet connection is required on the computer on which the PTV xServers are installed.

PTV Map&Guide intranet 2014 update

PTV Map&Guide intranet 2014 update

The update process occurs as follows:

Parallel installation of PTV Map&Guide intranet 2015

Transfer of the data from the previous version
Optional: Deinstallation of PTV Map&Guide intranet 2014
Tip: If you would not like to uninstall PTV Map&Guide intranet 2014 yet, you
can cancel or deactivate the PTV xServer 2014 and PTV Map&Guide intranet
Scheduler 2014 services beforehand.
You can install PTV Map&Guide intranet 2015 in parallel to your existing version
of PTV Map&Guide intranet 2014.
Important: In doing so, please note that you should only productively use one of
the systems on the same computers during an installation, otherwise access times
increase!
Alternatively, you can set up a new system. In this case, install PTV Map&Guide
intranet 2015 either via a standard installation on 3 computers (see chapter 2.5
"Standard installation" on page 14) or as a minimum installation on 2 computers
(see chapter 2.6 "Minimal installation" on page 27).
The following describes the parallel installation as standard installation on 3
computers and minimum installation on 2 computers.

5.1 Update: Standard installation on 3 computers

The standard installation is carried out in parallel to the existing PTV Map&Guide
intranet 2014 on 3 computers.
Notes: While specifying the computer addresses during installation, you can use
either the computer names or the IP addresses. We recommend using computer
names and only entering the IP addresses if there are problems with the name
resolution in the network.

49

If you copy the contents of the data carrier to the hard disk before installation,
please make sure to copy the content of DVD 1 to the directory DISK1 and the
content of DVD 2 to the directory DISK2.

5.1.1 Computer 1
The following components must be installed on computer 1:

Map
PTV Ajax Maps Server (PTV xMap, PTV xLocate)

5.1.1.1

Installing a Map

Note: Install the map before you install the PTV Ajax Maps Server!
1. Insert the map DVD into the DVD drive.
The start screen appears.
Note: If the startup screen does not automatically appear, start the installation via the setup.exe file.
2. Click on Install.
The installation Wizard opens.
3. Follow the instructions of the installation wizard.
4. Select PTV Map&Guide intranet as the map application.
5. Specify the map path.
Note: Usually the map of the previous version is already installed in the
suggested directory. The map path is therefore renamed by the setup. A
new Europe city map is, for example, not installed in the existing EuropePremium.geo directory, but rather in the EuropePremium_1.geo directory.
6. Enter the map serial number specified as listed on your licence certificate.
7. Select the Defragment map data check box.
8. Confirm your settings.
50

PTV Map&Guide intranet 2014 update

9. Exit the installation wizard with Finish.

The map has now been installed.
In the next step, you install the PTV Ajax Maps Server together with the PTV xMap
and PTV xLocate Server.

5.1.1.2 Installing PTV Ajax Maps Server (PTV xMap,

PTV xLocate)
Important: The PTV Ajax Maps Server is installed as services in parallel to the
existing PTV Ajax Maps Server of the previous version. However, the PTV Ajax
Maps Server services cannot run in parallel.
As soon as the new PTV Ajax Maps is installed, the previously used PTV Ajax Maps
Server service is cancelled and the more recent version is started. The previous
versions also therefore have access to the newly installed service by default.
During a parallel installation of PTV Map&Guide intranet 2015, there are therefore short interruptions when showing the maps of the previous version.
The PTV xServer services can run in parallel so that the previous version can also
access the PTV xServer originally installed after the update.
If you have installed PTV Map&Guide intranet 2015 for test purposes and would
like to continue using the previous version as a productive system, you should
note the following:
After installation of PTV Map&Guide intranet 2015, the previous version uses the
newly installed version of PTV Ajax Maps Server.
The PTV Ajax Maps Server is responsible for the presentation of background
maps in the web client. The new PTV Ajax Maps Server displays more up-to-date
map material than the previous version. This can mean that the streets displayed
in the map that the PTV xRoute server does not know are therefore also not used
for the routing.
If to begin with you would like to temporarily test version 2015 and continue to
productively use the previous version, you should deactivate the PTV Ajax Maps
Server (PTV Map&Guide intranet 2015) service and start the previous version,
PTV Ajax Maps Server (PTV Map&Guide intranet 2014).
1. Insert the program DVD into your DVD drive.
The start screen appears.
51

2. Click on Install.
The installation Wizard opens.
Tip: If the installation does not automatically appear, start the installation
via the setup.exe file.
3. Follow the instructions of the installation wizard.
4. Activate the following option on the Component selection page:
PTV Ajax Maps Server (xMap, xLocate)
Database
PTV Map&Guide intranet web application
PTV xServer (xMap, xLocate, xRoute, xTour)
5. Select the folder in which the PTV Ajax Maps Server and the PTV xServer
should be installed.
6. Select the folder in which you have previously installed the map.
7. Confirm your settings.
After installation, enable the installation server ports (see chapter 3.2"Enabling
ports for PTV xServer" on page 42).

backup of the databases" on page 74).

No: An automatic backup of the database is not created. Set up the database backup manually (see chapter 7 "Setting up manual backup of
the databases" on page 74).
Note: For technical reasons, the user database recovery model is set to
Complete after installation.

Data transfer intranet 2014

Tool to transfer the data from PTV Map&Guide intranet 2014.

5.3 Transferring data from PTV Map&Guide intranet 2014

Notes:
Start the PTV Map&Guide intranet Administration Tool before the data transfer
and enter the available serial number. This gives you free licences for the transfer
of other users and this ensures that users are not transferred with the deactivated
status. If you have fewer licences available in PTV Map&Guide intranet 2015 than
in the previous version, the last users created in the previous version are transferred with the status deactivated.
The following data that you created in a previous version is transferred to the new
version.

User and groups from the Administration Tool

Vehicles, profiles and station lists from the web application
Data records from the data manager
The data is stored in databases on the SQL server.
There is an update tool for you to use to transfer the data. After an installation in
the standard directories, you can find the tool on the computer where the web

application was installed under

C:\ProgramFiles\PTVGROUP\PTV Map&Guide intranet 2015\Tools\Updatetool
PTV Map&Guide intranet\Updatetool.exe or in the start menu under PTV
Map&Guide intranet 2015\Tools\Data transfer intranet 2014.

If you use the SQL server of the previous version for the databases of the new
version, the data is automatically transferred by the update tool.

If you wish to use a different SQL server for the new version's databases, you
must back up the databases and save them in the new SQL servers via the
update tool.
Notes: Before you start a data transfer, all users must log out of the client and the
administration tool.
The data transfer can be executed as often as necessary.
Please note that all data that you have already created in the new version PTV
Map&Guide intranet 2015 is lost in the data transfer. Only the user name and
password of the administrator who was the first to start the PTV Map&Guide intranet 2015 administration tool remain unchanged.

You use the SQL Server of the previous version

1. Move them to the computer on which you have installed the web application.
If you have installed PTV Map&Guide intranet 2015 in the standard folders,
you will find the update tool at C:\ProgramFiles\PTVGROUP\PTV
Map&Guide intranet 2015\Tools\
Updatetool PTV Map&Guide intranet\Updatetool.exe or in the start menu
under PTV Map&Guide intranet 2015\Tools\Data transfer intranet 2014.
2. Start the update tool.
3. Click on Start.
4. Confirm by inputting Yes.
The data from the previous version will be transferred.

67

You do not use the SQL server of the previous version

If you wish to use an SQL server on a different computer than for the previous
version, you have access to an SQL script that you can use to back up the version
2014 databases before starting the update tool.
You must first create a backup of the 2014 database using the SQL script and
copy this into the new SQL server's directory. Then start the update tool and the
data are imported.
1. Start Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio and open the PTV
Map&Guide intranet 2014 database.
2. Open the script Backup_2014.sql, that is located with the web application
on the computer.
Note: If you have carried out an installation in the standard directories, the
SQL script can be found with the web application on the computer under
C:\Program Files\PTVGROUP\PTV Map&Guide intranet 2015\Tools\
Updatetool PTV Map&Guide intranet\SQLScripts\Backup_2014.sql.
3. Click on

Run.

A database backup is created on the computer with the SQL server of the
2014 version in the following directory:
C:\ProgramData\PTVGROUP\PTV MapAndGuide intranet 2014\
mapandguide_intranet\DATA\Backup_Update\
4. Copy the Backup_Update directory to the computer where the new version's SQL server is running in the DATA directory.
After installation in the standard directory, the data directory is called
C:\ProgramData\PTVGROUP\PTV MapAndGuide intranet 2015\
mapandguide_intranet_2015\DATA.
5. Start the update tool on the computer where you installed the web application.

7. Click on Start and wait until all data is transferred.
Once the data transfer is complete, a note will be displayed.
8. Exit the migration tool.

73

Setting up manual backup of the databases

Notes: If you have selected an automatic backup in Setup, the database jobs are
installed and set up automatically. However, you can adjust the scripts and tasks
subsequently.
Important: The jobs for backing up the databases of a previous version do not
back up the databases of the new version! If you would like to back up version
2015 databases, you must set up the jobs again.
Regular backups are created of the PTV Map&Guide intranet databases and the
system databases via the database jobs. Furthermore, the database indexes are
optimised and a database integration check is carried out.
If you have not set up an automatic database backup via Setup, you can set up
the database jobs to back up the PTV Map&Guide intranet databases manually.
After an installation, you can find the necessary installation files in the standard
directories under C:\ProgramData\PTVGROUP\PTV MapAndGuide intranet
2015\mapandguide_intranet_2015\DATA\Scripte\Maintenance.

The databases are backed up via the freely available SQL script SQL Server
Maintenance Solution by Ola Hallegreen.

74

Setting up manual backup of the databases

Notes: The recommended backup strategy is freely available free of charge. It is

used by many well-known organisations. Further information on this can be found
at: http://ola.hallengren.com/organizations.html
PTV AG accepts no responsibility for the correctness, completeness and up-todate nature of the recommended backup strategy.
The required SQL procedures and tables are created and the Windows tasks are
set up via the installation files that back up and check the PTV Map&Guide intranet databases at specified intervals.

7.1 Changing the backup directory

You can state in the installation files that another directory is used for backups.
Notes: If you do not change the directories, the database backups are stored in
the
C:\ProgramData\PTVGROUP\PTV
MapAndGuide
2015\
mapandguide_intranet_2015\DATA\ folder in a subdirectory which reads like the
SQL instance name, e.g. MGINTRA$PTVMG.
If the computer where the SQL Server is installed has multiple hard disks, the
hard disk where the database data is stored should be used for the backup.
Make the change in the following installation files:

dba_UserDBs_DifferentialBackup.cmd

dba_UserDBs_FullBackup.cmd

dba_SysDBs_FullBackup.cmd

dba_UserDBs_LogBackup.cmd

Determine the required backup directory via the entry @Directory=<path>,

e.g. @Directory=D:\mgintra_backup_DB

7.2 Determining SQL user

In order to create the SQL procedures and tables, you require an SQL user who is
assigned to the sysadmin role.

75

You
specify
the
sysadmin
dba_MaintenanceSolution.cmd.

role

login

data

in

the

file

1. Open the dba_MaintenanceSolution.cmd script with a text editor.

2. Enter the login data of an SQL user with sysadmin role:
-U <User> -P "<Password>", e.g.
U admin P "PW9988"

7.3 Setting up jobs

After you have carried out all necessary adjustments (if necessary, see chapter 7.1
"Changing the backup directory" on page 75 and chapter 7.2 "Determining SQL
user" on page 75), you can install the jobs in the next step.
Important: Start the installation files using administrator rights.

Setting up Windows tasks

Start the file schtask_create_all.cmd using administrator rights.
8 command files are activated via the file to set up the Windows tasks. In the
Windows task planning, the following tasks are set up to back up the databases.

PTV Map&Guide intranet 2015_UserDBs_LogBackup

Carries out a backup of the transaction log of all relevant PTV Map&Guide intranet databases.

PTV Map&Guide intranet 2015_UserDBs_IntegrityCheck

Carries out an integrity check of all relevant PTV Map&Guide intranet databases.

PTV Map&Guide intranet 2015_UserDBs_IndexOptimize

Optimises indexes and statistics for all relevant PTV Map&Guide intranet databases.

PTV Map&Guide intranet 2015_UserDBs_FullBackup

Carries out a full backup of all relevant PTV Map&Guide intranet databases.
Note: The task is run once during the setup, so you can monitor in Windows
task planning whether the setup has been successful.
76

Setting up manual backup of the databases

PTV Map&Guide intranet 2015_UserDBs_DifferentialBackup

Carries out an incremental backup of all relevant PTV Map&Guide intranet databases. The only data that are backed up are those which have been
changed or newly added since the last backup.

PTV Map&Guide intranet 2015_SysDBs_IntegrityCheck

Carries out an integrity check of all system databases (master, model, msdb)

PTV Map&Guide intranet 2015_SysDBs_FullBackup

Carries out a full backup of the system databases (master, model, msdb).

Checking the task setup

During the setup a full backup of all relevant PTV Map&Guide intranet databases
is carried out once for test purposes via the task PTV Map&Guide intranet
2015_UserDBs_FullBackup.
In Windows task planning you can check whether the backup has been carried
out successfully.
1. Open Windows task planning via Start > Execute > taskschd.msc.
2. In the navigation tree, select the Task library entry.
The following tasks are entered to back up the databases.

Note:
The PTV Map&Guide intranet 2015_UserDBs_FullBackup task has already
been carried out once during setup.
3. Check the following:

In the PTV Map&Guide intranet 2015_UserDBs_

FullBackup task, is the entry The operation was completed successfully
(0x0) in the Last Run Result column?

77

In the specified backup directory (Standard:

C:\ProgramData\PTVGROUP\PTV MapAndGuide intranet
2015\DATA\<SQL instance name>\mapandguide_intranet\FULL
), was a *.bak file created?
If both entries are there, the setup has been successful.
Notes: If required, you can adjust the set times at which the tasks are carried out
through the Windows Task Planner. The intervals are set so that a full database
backup is carried out every 8 days.
Backups that are older than 8 days are automatically deleted by the jobs.

Checking log files

Log files are created by carrying out the Windows tasks.
The result of the action last carried out is recorded in a log file which has the
same name as the corresponding task. Log files are saved under
C:\ProgramData\PTVGROUP\PTV
MapAndGuide
intranet
2015\Log\MaintenanceSolution.
Note: For security reasons we recommend you check the log files at regular intervals.

Deleting Windows tasks

You can delete all the Windows tasks again to back up the PTV Map&Guide intranet databases.

To do this, start the file schtask_delete_all.cmd using administrator rights.

Tips and Tricks

Tips and Tricks

8.1 Changing log file path

After installation, log files are saved in the standard directories under
C:\ProgramData\PTVGROUP\PTV MapAndGuide intranet 2015\Log\ .
You can change this path at the beginning of the installation. To do so you must
call up the Setup. exe with the following parameters
setup.exe Logpath = "<Path details>", e.g.
setup.exe Logpath = D:\mgintra 2015

8.2 Subsequent enabling of traffic information

retrieval
If you have not enabled traffic information retrieval during installation, you can do
this subsequently.
1. Go to the directory in which the PTV xRoute Server has been installed.
Note: For an installation in the standard directories, with a 64-bit system,
the PTV xRoute Server is located under
C:\Program Files\PTVGROUP\PTV Map&Guide-xServer-1-18-1\xRoute.
2. Open the webapps directory.
3. Rename the TrafficInfoLoader.wa_ file as
TrafficInfoLoader.war.
After a few minutes, the traffic information will be retrieved automatically.

79

8.3 Use remote control

In the PTV Map&Guide intranet Client, there is an interface through the external
systems, such as trip or customer administration systems, by which information
can be transferred. Therefore, for example, a route can be created, calculated
and optimised from customer addresses in the Route planning application.
You will find a detailed description of the remote control in the help for the administration tool.
