A Detailed Lesson Plan

in
Mathematics
I-Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
1. Identify the diameter, radius and circumference of a circle.
2. Draw the diameter, radius and circumference of a circle.
3. Show cooperation in group activities.
II-Subject Matter:
Topic: Parts of a circle

Materials:
Powerpoint presentation, overhead projector

III-Procedure:
Teachers Activity

Students Activity

A. Preliminary Activities
1. Prayer (POWERPOINT)

2. Greetings
Good morning students?

Good morning, Maam

Good morning, Classmates.
Good morning.

3. Opening Song (POWERPOINT)

Let us sing the Math Jingle.

(The students are singing)

4. Checking of Attendance

B. Lesson Proper
That is a ball.
1. Motivation (POWERPOINT)
Can you name this object?
What is the shape of the ball?

2. Presentation
This morning we are going to study

The shape of the ball is circle.

about diameter, radius and

circumference of a circle.
3. Group Activity
Now I will divide you into 3 groups for
your group activity.
a. You cut a circle. Fold the circle into 2
equal parts, then mark the center of the
circle with an X, at the top endpoint of
the fold mark A and the bottom
endpoint of the fold mark A and the
bottom endpoint of the fold, mark B. A
to B is line segment that divides the
circle into 2 equal parts. This is called
diameter. Diameter divides the circle
into 2 equal parts.
b. This time, fold again the circle into 2
equal parts, at the top endpoint of the
fold, mark C and the bottom endpoint of
the fold, mark D. This will form different
line segments from the center. The line
segment from center X to endpoint C is
called radius.
The line segment XA, XB, XC and XD
are the radii of the circle.
c. The line that surrounds the circle is
called circumference. At this time, you
try to answer this question.

1. TU and RS

S
1. Which line segment determines
the diameter?
2. What line segment determines the
radius of the circle?

4. Group Reporting
Now the group leader will now report
their answer.

2. VT, VU, VR and VS

5. Generalization (POWERPOINT)
What is diameter?

Diameter is a line segment that passes

through the center and has its endpoints on
the circle.

What is radius?

Radius is a line segment from the center to

any point on the circle.

What is circumference?

Circumference is a line that surrounds the

circle.

What are the parts of the circle?

The parts of the circle are diameter, radius and

circumference.

IV- Evaluation
Using the circle on line segment, identify
the following parts of the circle. Write
only the letter of the correct answer.

1. BC
a. radius
b. diameter
c. circumference

2. FD
a. circumference
b. radius
c. diameter

3. FC
a. diameter
b. radius
c. circumference
4. AD
a. radius
b. circumference

c. diameter

V-Assignment
Draw a circle showing the following:
S as the center
ST as a diameter
SY as a radius
SX as a radius
SO as a radius
