Daily Passage:
For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was
thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger,
and you invited Me in; 36 naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick,
and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me. 37
Then the righteous will answer Him, Lord, when did we see You
hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You something to
drink? 38 And when did we see You a stranger, and invite You in,
or naked, and clothe You? 39 When did we see You sick, or in
prison, and come to You? 40 The King will answer and say to
them, Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of
these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.
Matthew 25:35-40

Daily Passage:
You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be
hidden; 15 nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a
basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in
the house. 16 Let your light shine before men in such a way that
they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in
heaven.
Matthew 5:14-16

Thoughts:
Often times we get so caught up in what we see right in front of
us, that we fail to see the bigger picture. Whether, it is struggling
to communicate in a different language or waiting on something
to happen next, we see only our situation and start to ask,
Whats the point? It is at these moments that we need to
remember that regardless of how insignificant the work may
seem, it is of eternal significance to God. He sees our labor as
an act of worship, love, and obedience to Him and this is what
truly pleases our God. Today is the second day of Encuentro 16
- River of Life. We will be moving to a larger outdoor venue
where there will be almost 1000 young adults present to hear the
good news of Jesus Christ.
Pray that with every act of service, our mission team will
recognize they are serving God Himself. Pray that this energizes
and renews the excitement of each member of the team.
Prayer: God our King, open the eyes of our mission team today.
Help them see you in the face of every person whom they serve.
Give them the energy and enthusiasm to continue their work with
happy hearts filled with love for you and for one another. Amen.

Thoughts:
Today is the final day of Encuentro 16 - River of Life. Our team
is exhausted from long days and late nights of serving, teaching,
praying, and preaching. As many of you know, it is days like this
where it is the most difficult to be a light for God. It is much
easier to be negative, or moody, or lazy on a day like today. But,
that is not what our mission team desires to be. Help us keep our
light shining bright by praying that we find that last bit of energy
we have left, that we keep positive attitudes even when it is
easier not to, and that we continue to work through the
weariness to Gods glory.
Pray that we are able to complete the workshops and services
that have been assigned to us and that rather than patting
ourselves on the back, we would praise God for the work He did
through us. Pray that when people look at us and hear the
message we share, they see the love of God shining through
each of us.
Prayer: Most holy God, make your presence known to our
mission team today. Fill them with your light as they go out to
finish the tasks you have made for them. Open the eyes of those
whom they serve so that when they see their works, they would
see your light and love through them and give you the praise.
Amen.

Daily Passage:
To some who were confident of their own righteousness and
looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable: 10 Two
men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other
a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed:
God, I thank you that I am not like other peoplerobbers,
evildoers, adulterersor even like this tax collector. 12 I fast
twice a week and give a tenth of all I get. 13 But the tax
collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to
heaven, but beat his breast and said, God, have mercy on me, a
sinner. 14 I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went
home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves
will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be
exalted.
Luke 18:9-14

Daily Passage:
Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses
surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the
sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance
the race that is set before us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the
author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him
endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at
the right hand of the throne of God. 3 For consider Him who has
endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you will
not grow weary and lose heart.
Hebrews 12:1-3

Thoughts:
Today we are going to the beach for a baptism celebration with
one of the local churches. It would be very easy for our team to
see that the only purpose of the trip was to serve Gods people,
but that is not the case. It is our hope and prayer that all of us
would see that we too are in constant need of work. We are all
on this faith journey together. While there is nothing wrong with
being proud of what we have accomplished, we need to give that
work over to God as our act of worship to Him.
Pray that this trip will be so much more than just a trip where we
serve the people of God, but that we truly encounter God. That
we lower ourselves so that He might be glorified. And that we
would return forever changed by Gods grace and love.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, we pray that you would reach out
and grab hold of all the members of the mission team this week.
Forever change us with your grace and love. Amen.

Thoughts:
The second full day of work lies ahead for our mission team
today. The initial excitement and energy that comes with a
mission trip has worn off for the most part now. It is easy to get
distracted by things that are being missed back home or by
things that others are doing. It is in these moments that our team
needs to refocus on the mission at hand. Tonight is the opening
night of Encuentro 16 - River of Life. We will be sharing the
good news with hundreds of young adults in a theatre. Just like
with anything, the beginning sets the course for everything that is
to follow.
Pray that the team will push away any distractions and issues
that might take away from both the work prepared for us as well
as what God might be teaching us. Pray that the team would not
get discouraged because of setbacks or unfulfilled expectations.
Pray instead that our team focuses on Jesus and that everything
they do, they do it for His glory.
Prayer: Father God, be with our mission team today. Help them
set aside all the distractions and problems that might weigh them
down and distract them from what you have for them. Help them
set their eyes on you and serve your people with willing and
happy hearts. Amen.

Daily Passage:
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of Gods
mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing
to Godthis is true worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of
this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
Then you will be able to test and approve what Gods will is his
good, pleasing and perfect will.
Romans 12:1-2

Daily Passage:
Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve
others, as faithful stewards of Gods grace in its various forms.
11 If you speak, you should do so as one who speaks the very
words of God. If you serve, you should do so with the strength
God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through
Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and
ever. Amen.
1 Peter 4:10-11

Thoughts:
The first day of work here in Peru. We begin our day with a four
hour bus trip from Lima to Chincha Alta. Everything is different,
including the climate (Its Summer!). The team is preparing for a
long day, yet at the same time, they are looking forward to an
exciting day meeting new friends and serving God by helping
others. In a real way they are offering their bodies to God,
sacrificing comfort for aches and pains. This work is pure and
pleasing because they intentionally chose this way to serve.
Plans change quickly here so we have to be ready for anything.
One minute we may be headed to the radio to give a message
and respond to callers, the next minute we may entertaining a
group of 50 kids. We cannot control the schedule but we can
control our attitude in all things.
Pray that our team remembers why they are truly on this mission
trip. That as they begin to serve God and His people, that their
work will be good and pleasing to God.
Prayer: God, excite the mission team as they prepare to serve
you today. Jesus Christ, our Savior, help them live out their faith
through their service to You today. Holy Spirit, empower the team
to be your people as they prepare to serve you today. Amen.

Thoughts:
This morning we will be packing our bags and then heading to a
local church for worship. After worship we will begin our journey
back home which actually ends tomorrow at lunch. It is a long
trip ahead and it is a reminder that there is still a lot of unfinished
work left for us in life. Each member of our team, and each
member of the Family of God, has been blessed with gifts that
we are to use to serve others.
Pray that our mission team has a safe return home and that the
mission will not stop just because we are no longer on a church
sanctioned trip. Pray that we would be empowered to continue a
life of service for Gods glory. And pray that you would join us in
this life of service as we live out a life of obedience to our Father
God together.
Prayer: Most Gracious God, thank you for the service and
mission witness of the mission team this week. I pray that you
would bring them home safely and filled with enthusiasm to
continue in a life of service to you and your people. Empower all
of us to join them in this journey as we seek to please you and
bring you glory. Amen.

Daily Passage:
Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.
Luke 5:4

Daily Passage:
By day the LORD went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide
them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light,
so that they could travel by day or night. 22 Neither the pillar of
cloud by day nor the pillar of fire by night left its place in front of
the people.
Exodus 13:21-22

Thoughts:
A lot of us have limited vision. We base most of our activities
and plans on what we already know, the familiar. We are
reluctant to get in over our heads because of the discomfort we
feel in such situations. We dont like having demands placed on
us that seem beyond our control.
When Jesus calls us to follow Him, He always pushes us beyond
our experience and beyond our abilities. The deep water can be
a scary place. For Peter, it seemed like a pointless place but
Jesus knows what it takes to bear fruit - and it always involves
going beyond our own limited vision. He calls us to launch out
into places where we have no choice but to depend on His
instructions and His power.
Today everything starts to feel familiar again - familiar language,
food, and patterns of life. But that doesnt mean we have to be
the same people. We can still respond to God calling us into
uncomfortable situations right here in our hometown.
Pray that our mission team doesnt fall into old habits and
patterns because they feel safe. Pray that we would still be a
bold witness for Christ with our families and friends.
Prayer: God of the impossible, you can do immeasurably more
than we can ask or imagine. Help us to bear fruit in our lives as
we trust you more and more each day. Help our mission team
make the transition home and give them courage to be bold in
their faith in this community.

No matter where the people traveled, the LORD was with them.
Each day his cloud was over the tent, and each night a fire could
be seen in the cloud.
Exodus 40:38

Thoughts:
During the long time the Israelites were wandering in the desert,
the presence of God was visibly with them. God appeared in the
daytime as a cloud, and at night as a flame or fire. They were
always led by God, they were never alone, and Gods presence
was always visible to them.
During the journey to Chincha Alta, Peru, far from home and
familiar thingspray that Gods presence is obvious to our
Mission Team. That His presence is obvious in our safe travels.
That His presence is obvious in the work ahead. That His
presence is obvious in the way we relate to one another. And
that His presence is obvious in our worship and service.
Pray that as a result of His obvious presence, we are all
encouraged in the work ahead and that our purpose on this trip
would become clear.
Prayer: Guide our Mission Teams journey today; help them
arrive safely to do your work. Let them greet enthusiastically this
wonderful opportunity to serve You by helping our neighbors.
Amen.

This is our third year working with local churches in Chincha

Alta, Peru. We are committed to helping the young people of
this area connect with Jesus Christ through a ministry
partnership that will help sustain both their spiritual and
physical growth. The Waterfront Church sends clothing,
school supplies, and dental hygiene products to an area of
Peru that was severely damaged by a magnitude 8
earthquake in 2007. Our work is coordinated through Pastor
Jose Suarez and his wife Dr. Roccio Suarez.

Prayer is a vital part of any mission trip. Over the next week,
we would appreciate you praying that God will prepare
hearts to receive the good news of the love of Jesus Christ
shared by our team. Pray for each team member regularly
that God will work in their hearts and use each member as
His hands and feet. Pray for safe travel, physical strength,
and an attitude of cooperation.
