Background
Due to the fierceful job competition nowadays, a person is required to have a good

competence in work, perceptive and also broad knowledge. As a student in chemical

engineering field, especially in bioprocess engineering, having knowledge and skills are
really important thus those skill will be beneficial to develop technology in this era of
globalization. During college, almost every subject that is received by students are simply
theories without any practical usage. However, someone must have good practical skills so
that students can survive in nowadays work, which is the reason why on job training is
important to apply knowledge that has been obtained from college into a real life application.
In order to prepare Bioprocess Engineering, Universitas Indonesia graduates to be
capable in working atmosphere in the future, on job training is required for Bioprocess
Engineering students of Universitas Indonesia to graduate from the program; which is also a
part of the programs curriculum. The purpose of this requirement is to prepare students to
obtain experiences in real working atmosphere thus they can apply their knowledge from
college in the field, able to communicate and interact with seniors in the field and also gain
some experiences that will be useful for their further study in college and work in their future.

TOTO is the biggest sanitary producer company in Indonesia, thats my firm reasons
to choose this company to become my on job training place. As a student from Chemical
Engineering Department, Universitas Indonesia, there are a lot of new and exciting things I
can learn in the production process in PT TOTO Indonesia, specifically in waste treatment
process since I come from Bioprocess Engineering major and I study about
microorganisms apllications. I hope by experiencing on job training at PT Surya TOTO
Indonesia, I can apply all things I have learned in my college courses, and courses I am going
to learn in my last year of study.
In the future, I hope I would be able to become human resources with great
capabilities for PT Surya TOTO Indonesia, I also hope this on job training will become a
good start for me to get to know PT Surya TOTO Indonesia even better and apply my
knowledge and adapt myself in working atmosphere.

III. Purpose
Hereby are the purposes of my on job training proposal:
1.

To meet the requirements of Chemical Engineering Department, Universitas Indonesia

in order to graduate and obtain B.Eng, since on job training itself is required to be
taken;

2.

To apply knowledge obtained from what I have learned in Chemical Engineering

Department, Universitas Indonesia into the real case in field, regarding the production
processes, especially the ones that are related to biotechnology and involving some
microorganisms;

3.

To obtain real job experiences in field, especially the ones that are related to Waste
Treatment Process in PT Surya TOTO Indonesia

4.

To increase knowledge about industrial world and factory processes;

5.

To build good and mutually beneficial relationships between Chemical Engineering,

Universitas Indonesia and PT Surya TOTO Indonesia

IV. Bioprocess Engineering

Bioprocess Engineering is an engineering which is related to all operations and
processes which utilize microorganisms either in their living phase or the their enzyme

products. Bioprocess Engineering is a combination between biotechnology and chemical

engineering.
Biotechnology is a field study which focuses on genetic engineering and how to
utilize microbes to create a beneficial product. Biotechnology studies about microbiology,
molecular genetics, and biochemistry. Chemical engineering is a part of engineering science
which studies on how to design or engineer a certain process or control for chemical
materials and turn them into products that we mostly use in real life. Chemical engineering
able to produce a certain product, in large scale.
There are a lot of products of biotechnology research that has tons of advantages.
Nevertheless, those products will not have any advantage if it cannot be used by a lot of
people. Chemical engineering, which learns to produce a certain chemical product in large
scale is the answer to this problem, where it is used to design a process and control to the
production of biotechnology research thus it can be produced in large scale. Technology used
to produce these biotechnology processes in large scale is called Bioprocess Engineering.

V.

Topic
On this job training, I want learn more specifically about food waste treatment

process in which involves the use of bacteria in PT Surya TOTO Indonesia. However, in the
implementation my requested topic can be adapted with the issues which are exist in the
company. Therefore, I hope I will get the chance to involve in your companys project,
certainly with guidance from the workers of PT Surya TOTO Indonesia.

VIII. Closing
Thus, I made this proposal for your consideration in accepting on PT Surya TOTO
Indonesias job training. However, if my requested time and position is not suitable with your
company needs, I will try our best to adjust the company need.
If PT Surya TOTO Indonesia can acce npt my proposal, I hope I can receive
guidance and lesson from the company so that my on job training will be successfully done,

and also companys participation to evaluate and score my on job training througout the
process. I also hope our participation will add companys overall performance.
As a reference, alongside with this proposal, I have also attached my Curriculum
Vitae (CV). As for the recommendation letter from Chemical Engineering Department,
Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia is still on process.
