An adsorption air conditioning system is proposed to provide cooling for heavy-duty

vehicles. This system is

powered by waste heat when the engine is running. When the engine is off, it can be
operated by fuel fire heaters, a recently implemented technology to reduce the idling of
heavy-duty vehicles. Hence, this system can not only reduce engine emissions but
improve the overall engine efficiency. A model of the adsorption system using the zeolitewater working pair is developed and the system performance with different operating
cycle is reported. The results show that the COP of the system increases with the length
of the cycle period but the total cooling capacity decreases during the same period of
operation. The dynamic performance of the system provides guidance for the system
control and energy minimization.
The schematic of the adsorption system proposed for heavy-duty vehicles is shown
Figure When Adsorber 1 is
connected to the evaporator and Adsorber 2 is connected to the condenser, the sorbent
in Adsorber 1 is cooled by the fluid from heat sink and adsorbs the refrigerant from the
evaporator, providing cooling for the vehicle.
Simultaneously Adsorber 2 is heated by the fluid from the heat source and the refrigerant
is desorbed from the
sorbent, condenses in the condenser and then flows to the evaporator through the
expansion device. The process in Adsorber 1 is called adsorption and the one in Adsorber
2 is desorption. In order to provide continuous cooling, Adsorber 1 and Adsorber 2 switch
their functions between adsorption and desorption after a certain cycle period of
operation. The refrigerant flow between the adsorbers and the heat exchangers is
controlled by the valves. The evaporator is always connected to the adsorber in the
adsorption phase, and the condenser is connected to the adsorber in the desorption
process. The heating and cooling of the adsorbers are managed by the fluid control unit.

The intensification of transportation and environmental accidents during recent

years is greatly contributing to the increase of environmental pollution in the world, thereby
causing threat to terrestrial as well as aquatic life. The effect of automobile emission is slow

One of the appropriate solution introduced for controlling the contaminants from
I/C engine emission is adsorption technique, to produce high quality environment. Natural
plant material(Odina wodier), Seaweed(Chaetomorpha) and some cheap chemical(Barium
chloride) was used as adsorbent for the removal of Air pollutants like Carbon monoxide,
Carbon dioxide, Nitrogen oxides and Hydrocarbon from I/C engine exhaust. Adsorption
studies were performed by batch experiments as a function of process parameters: Adsorption
time, concentration of adsorbent, flow rate. The results proved Odina wodier to be a favorable
adsorbent to control the air pollutants from I/C engine emission and for further use in
diversified industrial applications.
WORKING PRINCIPLE
In the Diesel Engine, the mixture and fuel vapors and air is prepared outside the
cylinder in a carburetor from the carburetor the accurately metered quantity of the full
mixture is fed in to the cylinder. Where an electric spark ignites it. The cylinders of a Petrol
Engine are charged with a mixture of air with the vapour and minute particles of liquid
fuel.so noise is high.

The single cylinder engines have a poor pickup. Hence their application is
limited on transport machines. This disadvantage of single cylinder engines is eliminated by
building multi cylinder engines more frequent recurrence of the power strokes in the multi
cylinder engines ensured a uniform rotation of the crank shaft thus in the single cylinder
engine. Hence the load on the engine parts of multi cylinder engines are distributed more
energy.Initially an internal combustion is started and exhaust gases are analysed. Then 5 g of
adsorbent is taken by weighing accurately. The filter was fixed exhaust hollow pipe. Then
the filter fitted with the ic engine. Now engine was started and outgoing gases are analysed at
sequence time interval ie 60 min to 360 min. Then weight of adsorbent and flowrates are
changed and analysed.
ADVANTAGES
Good pickup.
Cost of the Engine is less.
Lighter is weight.
Ensures a more uniform rotation of the Crankshaft.
No vibration when the Engine is running.
Starting the Engine Easy.
