Poll results reveal former Maryland State Delegate Michael Smigiel leading over incumbent Representative Andy Harris as the candidate voters indicated they were most likely to vote for in April’s Republican Primary. Michael Smigiel. Only twenty-nine percent (29%) of the voters felt Rep. Andy Harris should be re-elected. Eleven percent (11%) of voters reported they would vote for Maryland State Police Barracks Commander, Sean Jackson, and two percent (2%) said they would vote for Mr. Jonathan Goff. There is a margin of error of ± 4 percent (± 4 %) on this primary polling survey. Calls were made to over 20,000 voters with over 600 individuals answering the poll, and results indicate that when voters were informed that Rep. Harris had voted to fully fund Obamacare, 82 percent (82%) of the Republican primary voters surveyed would not vote for Harris. When voters were aware that Rep. Harris had voted to fully fund President Barrack Obama’s unconstitutional use of executive power to grant amnesty to millions of illegal aliens, 85 percent (85%) of Republican voters said they would not vote to re-elect Harris. Likewise, 80 percent (80%) of those surveyed reported that they would not vote to re-elect Rep. Andy Harris if they knew he had made the statement that it was “just fine” for Planned Parenthood to sell baby parts as long as they did not use federal money to do so. - more - Nationally, Rep. Harris is known as the most outspoken critic of D.C. and states which have chosen to allow medical marijuana, decriminalization or legalization. In the 1st District, fifty-nine percent (59%) of the Republican voters surveyed reported they would be less likely to vote for Harris because of his anti-marijuana, anti- state's rights stance. Voters also indicated that they are most appreciative of Smigiel’s position on fighting against excessive taxation and regulations, his service in the United States Marine Corps, continued support of veterans and for being awarded the highest rating in the Maryland state legislature for his continued support and defense of constitutional rights. Former Del. Michael Smigiel stated that, “I understand that Republican voters are frustrated and angry with Establishment Republicans who continue to place politics over people and party over principles, yet I’m surprised at the level of discontent the survey showed when voters were exposed to the actual votes and extreme positions taken by Congressman Harris”. Smigiel went on to state, “Rep. Harris’ votes demonstrate that, like Speaker Cantor, Andy Harris is out of touch with the voters in the 1st District and that he is too willing to compromise in Washington D.C. on the principles important to his constituents”. Smigiel announced his candidacy for Maryland’s 1st Congressional District June 10, 2015. Smigiel is described as a libertarian conservative and is known for being one of the most effective Republicans in Annapolis over his twelve years of service in the Maryland House of Delegates by working across the aisle with Democrats to get things done.     voters in Maryland. The poll was conducted from January 7th to the 8th and has a margin of error of 4%.
    The total may not round to 100% because of rounding. The polls were conducted using automated
    telephone calls (IVR technology) and weighted by voting demographics.
