can be kept by the classroom sink for their use during the day. There is a

Snack
We ask that all children eat a piece of fresh or dried fruit, or a vegetable at
morning play. Cereal bars and other snacks can be eaten at lunch time.
Lunch
All children will have thirty minutes to eat their lunch and thirty minutes
to play outside.
We are a healthy eating school and therefore encourage healthy options.
Please provide a suitable cold lunch for your child. Here are a few ideas:
Sandwiches, pasta, wrap or pitta bread with healthy fillings;
A piece of cheese;
Yoghurt;
Fruit/vegetables;
Water or juice.
We ask you not to give your child sweets, chocolate, cakes or fizzy drinks.
The children are encouraged to return uneaten items of food to their lunch

Golden Time
Each Friday afternoon, KS2 children have 30 minutes of Golden Time
during which they are allowed to take part in an exciting and enriching
activity. Activities include bench ball, scootering, design technology, art,
craft, ICT and den building. The children choose

Woods and Pond Dipping will require the children to bring in some
wellington boots/outdoor shoes/clothes.
Weather
During the summer term children will need a sun hat and should wear
sunscreen - which is to be applied at home. School fleeces are for keeping
the children warm outside and should be removed when inside.

Illness
If your child is not well, or is suffering from something that may be
passed on to another child, please keep them at home and call Mrs Reynolds
(School Administrator) on 625858.
It is especially important that children, who have highly infectious
conditions such as gastro-enteritis or have vomited, stay at home until the
condition is clear; this is usually after a minimum of 48 hours.
Inhalers for asthmatic conditions must be clearly labelled and named and
in date. Children in KS2 keep their own inhalers in their school bags. It is
necessary for your child to take this inhaler with them to all PE sessions
and to any learning taking place out of the classroom. Should your child
no longer need the inhaler, please let the school know in writing.
Medicine can only be administered at school if written permission is given,
stating your childs name, medication, amount and frequency of the dose.
Antibiotics will only be administered if it is required four times a day.
Please arrange to talk to a member of staff so that a relevant form can be
filled out and signed.
Please keep us updated of any condition, ailment or allergy that your child
has.

The Jersey Curriculum

We follow the Jersey and National Curriculum for Literacy, Maths and
Science. In addition to these core subjects, we teach the following
foundation subjects: History, Geography, RE, Music, PSHE, Art and PE.

Information Technology
The children have access to desktop computers in an ICT suite.
Children in all year groups have access to an interactive whiteboard.
Children also have access to a set of iPads and mini iPads (although
children are currently not allowed to bring in their own).
Children in Year 5 and 6 are able to enter the school Laptop Scheme,
allowing them to use their own or a rented lap top at school.
Children and parents in KS2 are required to sign an Acceptable
Users Policy to access computers and the internet at school.
This will include if you intend your child to bring a mobile phone to
school.
All children in KS2 have a VLE account, with their own private
password. This allows parents and children to access school learning
and information when not at school.
All children have a school email address, which is monitored.
E-Safety
Each year, the school E-Safety officer, holds a Parents E-Safety
evening prior to the delivery of E-Safety lessons in the classrooms.
These are always held in February.
E-Safety is taught throughout the year to all children in Key Stage
2.
Mobile phones are to be switched off and remain in childrens bags
throughout the school day.
Languages
Children in Years 5 and 6 learn to speak and write French.
Children in Year 4 are taught Jerriais for six weeks and some basic
French vocabulary.

KS2 PE

the children to bring a separate pair of trainers to prevent damage to
the flooring.

opportunity to play recorders. Children who pass relevant tests are able to
learn how to play the violin or brass instruments with peripatetic music
staff. KS2 children are also able to join a choir.
Eisteddfod

Homework
All children will have weekly reading and homework to complete to enhance a
range of subjects taught in school. Please help and support your children with
this by providing a sensible environment for children to work to their best of
their ability. Homework diaries show homework set and reading records. Your
children will be expected to share this with you and we ask that you sign the
record to acknowledge completion of any tasks set.
Parental Help
All parents are welcome and encouraged to come and spend time in Key
Stage 2. We welcome help in many different ways including hearing
readers and helping out on visits.
Reading: Parent help is vital for this as in addition to regular reading
sessions in class, we promote individual reading with an adult.
If parents are volunteering on a regular basis they will be required
to complete a police check form (DBS)

If you have any worries or concerns about your child,

or their progress, please do not hesitate to speak with us.
