2 Release

3/24/2005

Thank you for purchasing Link Manager 5.2. Link Manager 5.2 provides the ability
to configure and monitor P-COM radios by using a convenient graphical user inte
rface. Please take the time to fill out your registration card and either fax or
mail it to P-COM. Registering your P-COM software product will ensure notificat
ion of the latest updates.
Overview
By customer request, a form found in the Link menu, known as Link Settings, enab
les the user to change critical link parameters in all four protected terminals,
assuming a protected link. Specifically, this form automatically changes the bi
t rate and/or the RF channel (and allows the ratio terminals to re-establish a n
ew RF channel and or data rate, with the radio link reacquiring RF/data communic
ations, stabilizing all the new parameters, and becoming protect-ready). This se
quence of changes in a 4-terminal configuration in protect-ready mode, with alar
m free conditions, is done in a manner that reduces the possibility of losing co
nnection between the local and remote terminals.
Also in this edition, the Download form regains its ability to abort the downloa
d during a PC COM port firmware download.
Troubleshooting Link Settings Change Operation
If the Link Settings form fails to complete its change operation, please consult
the following:
1. If a local radio terminal is acquired with a remote radio terminal (solid amb
er remote alarm):
* Ensure local radio terminal is 'Active'.
* Match ALL radio terminals' capacity and RF channel (un-mute transmitter) w
ith the acquired terminal's capacity and RF channel (un-mute the transmitter).
* Clear all alarms (ensure switchlock is off via Link Manager's Protection f
orm).
* If acquired radio link is not configured for wanted capacity and or RF cha
nnel, repeat the Link Settings change operation.
2. If a local radio terminal is NOT acquired to a remote terminal (flashing ambe
r remote alarm):
* Configure local active terminal to original or new settings for capacity a
nd RF channel (un-mute the transmitter).
* If local and remote radio terminals acquire, update the other radio termin
als to match the acquired radio terminals and ensure that switchlock is off for
all terminals in the link.
* If local and remote radio terminals do not acquire, travel to the remote s
ite and configure the radio terminals to the local terminals' settings (capacity
, RF channel, and un-mute the transmitter).
Compatibility
Release 5.2 will work with all releases of Tel-Link and Tel-Link Encore 1.8.0 or
greater SPM firmware. The current firmware version is 6.1 for Tel-Link, and 1.8
.0 for Tel-Link Encore.
Hardware Requirements
PC compatible, Pentium 100Mhz or faster, 32M ram, 120M or greater fixed drive, V

GA monitor, one free serial communications port, modem (optional).

Link Manager runs on Windows 9X and Windows NT 4.0.
Link Manager 5.2 requires a hardware key, model RB-4FMGBH. Two such keys are inc
luded with the software.
Known Problems
Versions of Link Manager and Performance Package prior to version 5.2 of Link Ma
nager are NOT compatible with Encore radios. Users of prior versions of Link Man
ager or Performance Package with Encore radios do so at their own risk. Users ma
y continue to run Link Manager and/or Performance Package with Tel-Link radios,
but Link Manager 5.2 and higher support both Tel-Link and Encore radios.
If Link Manager should experience a runtime error such as a "General Protection
Fault," it is recommended that Windows 95 users restart their computer. Window N
T users should shut down all 16-bit programs, log out, and log back into NT.
Link Manager now supports dynamic column sorting for the terminal directory and
dialup windows. Simply click on the desired column header to sort the column. Ho
wever, due to design limitations, users must keep the terminal directory and dia
lup windows horizontally sized so that there are no empty columns showing on the
right of the display list. An empty column is one that has no column header tex
t or text in the column, and is signified by
a divider on the right of the display with no text after it. If empty columns ar
e shown in the display window, then the program cannot adequately detect which c
olumn was clicked on. The workaround to this problem is to size the windows so t
hat only columns with
text in them are showing.
Link Manager's "Spin Edit" controls that are used for certain radio controls lik
e Channel ID and Link ID, may occasionally accept mouse clicks even when the Ter
minal window is not active. When this occurs, the graphical control will automat
ically increment or decrement
itself without regards to user intervention. This situation will cause the progr
am to crash. At present, there is no solution to the problem, but it will be add
ressed in a future release.
