Pedal Units
Installation

The Pedal Unit should be mounted on the front wall of the cab close and accessible to the driver, normally below
the steering column.
The Pedal Unit should be mounted using 4 M8 screws from outside of the cab under the bonnet.
The Pedal Unit provides pass-through holes for the M8 fixing screws.
The assembly orientation must be vertical, which means the exhaust (Silencer) of the foot brake valve or module
should point downwards and the fluid reservoir of the master cylinder should be upright (for the manual gearbox
version).
For proper insulation, the assembly should be carried out in a way which guarantees proper contact between the
rubber gasket and the front wall of the cab.
The Pedal Units master cylinder is supplied without clutch fluid (use only DOT 4). Fill the master cylinder with the
recommended fluid up to the level indicated on the fluid reservoir.
Warning! The stroke of the clutch and brake pedals must not be limited by the cab environment. Full stroke
must be assured after Pedal Unit assembly in the cab.
Further installation details concerning Pedal Units should be agreed in discussions between Knorr-Bremse and the
vehicle manufacturer. The completed installation should be inspected and approved by a Knorr-Bremse engineer.

Note - ensure that the exhaust or silencer on the foot valve and the master cylinder reservoir
is masked during any painting of the vehicle.

Servicing
The functionality of the Pedal Unit should be checked regularly. The main checks to be carried out are:
Check for any leakage from the foot brake valve and master cylinder.
Check the level of fluid in the master cylinder reservoir and top up if necessary with fluid of the correct
specification.
Check the fluid quality and replace the fluid in case of contamination.
Check that maximum brake pressure is reached at full stroke of the brake pedal.
Check full disengagement of the clutch at full stroke actuation of the clutch pedal.
Clutch hydraulic fluid should be replaced periodically. Definition of the correct replacement time depends on vehicle
application and should be defined together between Knorr-Bremse and the vehicle manufacturer.
For details of the correct service parts for the foot brake valve and clutch master cylinder use the Product Search
link on the website Knorr-BremseCVS.com.
