ABBREVIATIONS
3-Needle Cast off (joining 2 pieces together as you cast off) = Place
the stitches of the pieces to be joined on separate needles (or each end
of a circular needle), held one behind the other in left hand, with right
sides facing each other; with a third needle (the same size or 1 size larger
than used for knitting the pieces), [k2tog (1 stitch from the front needle
together with 1 stitch from the back needle)] twice, *pass first stitch on
right-hand needle over last stitch in the usual manner, k2tog (1 stitch
from the front needle together with 1 stitch from the back needle);
repeat from * until all stitches have been cast off

Size 4.5 mm (U.S. 7) knitting needles. Stitch markers. Stitch holders.
GAUGE
17 sts and 25 rows = 4" [10 cm], using larger needles in dot pattern.

INSTRUCTIONS
Note: When changing colors at the end of a row, do not break yarn;
carry color not in use loosely up side edge.

BACK
Using smaller needles and MC, cast on 42 (46, 50, 54) sts.
**Knit 2 rows.
Change to A; knit 2 rows.
Change to B; knit 2 rows.
Change to larger needles, St st, and Fair Isle Pattern from chart; work
even for 6 rows.
Change to smaller needles and B; knit 2 rows. Break yarn.
Change to A; knit 2 rows. Break yarn.
Change to MC; knit 2 rows.**
Change to larger needles and Dot Pattern; work even until piece
measures 7 (7, 7, 8)" from beg, ending with a WS row. Place
marker at beg and end of row for beg of armhole. Work even until piece
measures 11 (12, 12, 13)" [29 (30.5, 32, 34.5) cm] from beg,
ending with a WS row.
Next Row (RS): Cast off 10 (12, 13, 15) sts, knit to last 10 (12, 13, 15) sts
and sl last 22 (22, 24, 24) sts worked to a holder for Back neck, cast off
rem sts for shoulder.

FRONT
Work as for Back to armhole. Place markers for armhole as for Back.
Shape Neck (RS): Work 15 (17, 19, 21) sts, sl rem 27 (29, 31, 33) sts to a
holder for Right Front. Working on Left Front sts only, work even for 1 row.
Left Front: Dec 1 st at neck edge every 6 rows 5 (5, 6, 6) times 10 (12,
13, 15) sts rem. Work even until piece measures same as for Back to
shoulder, ending with a WS row. Cast off all sts.
Right Front: With RS facing, join yarn and cast off next 12 sts, work to
end. Working on Right Front sts only, work even for 2 rows. Dec 1 st at
neck edge every 6 rows 5 (5, 6, 6) times. Work even until piece measures
same as for Left Front to shoulder, ending with a WS row. Cast off all sts.

SLEEVES
Using smaller needles and MC, cast on 22 sts. Work as for Back from **
to **.

Change to larger needles and Dot Pattern, inc 1 st each side every 4 rows
8 (9, 10, 11) times 38 (40, 42, 44) sts. Work even until piece measures
8 (9, 9, 10)" [20.5 (23, 24.5, 25.5) cm] from beg, ending with a WS
row. Cast off all sts.

LEFT PLACKET
Using larger needles and MC, cast on 9 sts. Beg Dot Pattern, inc 1 st at
beg of every other RS row 5 (5, 6, 6) times 14 (14, 15, 15) sts. Work
even until piece measures 4 (4, 5, 5)" [11.5 (11.5, 12.5, 12.5) cm]
from beg, ending with a WS row. Break yarn, sl sts to holder and set
aside.

RIGHT PLACKET
Using larger needles, cast on 9 sts. Beg Dot Pattern, inc 1 st at end of
every other RS row 5 (5, 6, 6) times 14 (14, 15, 15) sts. Work even until
piece measures 4 (4, 5, 5)" [11.5 (11.5, 12.5, 12.5) cm] from beg,
ending with a WS row. Leave sts on needle.

HOOD
Work across Right Placket sts, across Back neck sts on holder, then across
Left Placket sts 50 (50, 54, 54) sts. Working in Dot Pattern across all sts,
work even for 1 row.

Shape Hood (RS): Work 14 (14, 15, 15) sts, *k1-f/b; rep from * to last
14 (14, 15, 15) sts, work to end 72 (72, 78, 78) sts. Work even in Dot
Pattern until piece measures 7 (7, 8, 8)" [18 (18, 20.5, 20.5) cm] from
beg, ending with a WS row. Divide Hood sts in half; using 3-Needle cast
off , join Hood sides.

Neck and Hood Trim

With RS facing, using smaller needles and A, and beg at base of Right
Placket, pick up and knit 106 (106, 110, 110) sts along straight neck
edge of Plackets and Hood. Knit 1 row.
Change to B; knit 2 rows.
Change to MC; knit 2 rows. Cast off all sts knitwise.

FINISHING
Block pieces to measurements. Sew shoulder seams. Sew in Sleeves
between markers. Sew in Plackets, overlapping Left over Right for a boy
and Right over Left for a girl. Sew side and Sleeve seams.
Using yarn needle, weave in ends.
