Known for its beautiful cinnamon to white bark, peeling as it


matures to expose mottled patches of cream, orange and
pinkish tan. Fast growth rate. One of the most disease- and
insect-free birches, resistant to wind and ice damage. Grows
in coarse sand to heavy clay, with poor to moderate drainage;
full sun to part shade; prefers wet to average conditions but
survives dry summers. Grows 24/year. Matures in 50 years.
Good nesting tree. Catkins attract birds.
