Organizational Setting
Under the overall guidance of the State Programme Coordinator and in day-to-day coordination
with the Administrative/finance staff of the State Office, the driver provides reliable and safe
driving services to state office staff and other UN officials and visitors ensuring highest
standards of discretion and integrity, sense of responsibility, excellent knowledge of protocols
and security issues. The driver also demonstrates client-oriented approach, courtesy, tact and
ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds
Main tasks and responsibilities
1. Provides safe driving services with focus on the following:
Drives office vehicle for transporting authorized personnel and delivery/collection of
mail, documents and other items for the UNFPA office. Deliver office material to various
offices regularly and arrange for pick-ups/collection of articles from other offices, as
required
Provides logistic support on arrival and departure to authorized staff or visitors personnel.
When necessary and required, translates in local language for official personnel using the
official vehicle.
2. Ensures proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through focus on
Timely minor repairs, arrangement for major repairs, timely changes of oil, checking of
water levels, tires, brakes, car washing etc.
Ensure proper use of vehicle by accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, provision of
inputs to preparation of vehicle maintenance plans and assistance in preparing vehicle
history report.

Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies, office directory, map of the
city/country, first aid kit and other necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle.
Keeps a track of insurance and other tax formalities

3. Perform other duties as assigned with specific focus on the following:


Ensure that all immediate actions required by rules and regulation are taken in case of
involvement of assigned vehicle in accident
Assist office staff in filing, photocopying and maintaining stores when required. Assist in
mailing and distribution of newsletters and publications and arrange to pay office
telephone and other bills, as required
Any other task which the supervisor might assign
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Secondary School certificate
Possess valid driving license
Minimum of three years work experience as a driver in an international organization,
embassy or UN system with a safe driving record.
Working knowledge of roads of the local areas (state and the state capital)
Ability to write in a clear and concise manner
Working knowledge of English; Good Knowledge of local language
