Abstract
Actually around 10% of the world's population live with a disability and of them
did not received odontological attention instead of the high prevalence of oral and
dental pathologies that they have. Oral hygiene is deficient, diets are highly
cariogenic, the use of medicaments is frequent and the odontological control did not
happen as frequently as it must be. For all reasons the incidence of cavities,
periodontal diseases and malocclusions is more common that in the rest of
population. There are many options to treat patients with special needs like
psychological techniques, physical restriction and pharmacological alternatives. In
conclusion, is very important to change paradigms in actual dentistry to increase oral
health in these patients.
