It may involve plant cultivation, animal
husbandry, and aquaculture.

Our project is focused on containerized

cultivation of vegetables in the city

Objectives of Urban Agriculture

(1). To make available and affordable food items
especially common vegetables in the family
household and in the city and in effect lower the
expenses on these food items;
(2.) To encourage the production of healthy, safe,
pesticide-free vegetables;
(3.) To make use of vacant lots, residential spaces,
balconies and roof-tops for vegetable growing,
urban greening, and landscape beautification;

Objectives of Urban Agriculture

(4.) To create alternative means of livelihood
to city-residents, especially women and outof-school youth;
(5.) To encourage entrepreneurship attitudes
to citizens and also
(6), To encourage composting or organic
wastes, recycling of plastic, styro-foam,
glass and metal wastes, thereby reducing total
waste output

Finally the Buayang Bato urban agri project has now a permanent greenhouse made of Gi Pipe
and PVC Plastic net compliments of PHINMA. The roof height is just right to allow sufficient air
moement and prevent the greenhouse from becoming too hot.

Plants are becoming crowded as more and more plants are added to the greenhouse. Careful
planning of plants to raise is important to maximize space and as not to make your growing area
too crowded for comfort. Pest and diseases may come out in a crowded set up.

Note that other houses are usually 3-4 stories high . With the greenhouse installed,
other residents are starting to make their own rooftop gardens as well.

RTU updating technologies in urban agriculture through
research, extension and linkages.
While PHINMA is helping and doing their part of
corporate obligation and extension work to the
community
Various Barangays in Mandaluyong City are seeking
technical assistance on Urban Agriculture in order to
sustain their backyard vegetable garden projects.
