company that produces Nylon Resin and other by-products glycerol and
linoleic acid, conducted a Market Research, which is a very important
component in creating business strategy. This market research
determined the market viability of the products as seen in the different
statistical data gathered and analytical methods used in interpretation
of the collected information. It is an essential means for the JOPN
Corporation to establish the sales ability of the products produced in
the Industry.
The historical data of the demand and supply from 2005 to 2009
for glycerol, linoleic acid and Polyamide (Nylon) were gathered,
analyzed, and used in the projection of values at the target year 2017.
Statistical treatment methods were applied and compared to show all
the realistic projections. From these statistical treatments, the best
demand and supply projections were selected. Then, from these data
the plant rated capacity and the actual market share were determined.
The projected demand and supply of the companys product
were carefully analyzed using the import and export data; and the
production and consumption data that were obtained from the
Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), National Statistics Office (NSO)
and the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB).
The researchers also focused on the target clients or consumers
who are now concerned for both the environment and their familys
welfare by creating a new product from indigenous raw materials.
Likewise, we have also looked into our competitors and their strategies
98

in order to ensure the formulation of a better marketing strategy that

paved the way for our companys place in the industry.
Furthermore, the researchers formulated an efficient marketing
program and devised competent marketing strategies that introduce
the products of the company in the nylon and other related industries.

OBJECTIVES OF MARKET STUDY

99

General

Determine and evaluatethe market feasibility

for the mass

productions of Polyamide (Nylon) Resin and Glycerol

Specifically, this study aims to:

Evaluate the previous demand and supply data of Polyamide

(Nylon) and Glycerol from 2005 to 2009

Use the historical demand and supply of Polyamide (Nylon) and

Glycerol from 2005 to 2009 for the projection of future values
through the different projection methods such as Standard
Deviation and ANOVA

Identify the competing and consuming industries to facilitate

distribution of manufactured products

Compute for the available market share based on the projected

demand and supply on the year 2017

Calculate the plant rated capacity of the corporation based from

the computed market share

Identify an effective marketing programs and strategies to

introduce the product in the industry

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

POLYON

(POLYAMIDE (NYLON) RESIN from bio-based

azelaic

acid )

DESCRIPTION
Nylon is a generic name for thermo-plastic polyamide resins. These
resins are available as laments and yarns, molding compounds, and
casting materials. Extreme toughness, high softening temperature, and
high chemical resistance characterize molded parts.
In contrast to the fermentation pathway to adipic acid from glucose,
azelaic acid (nonanedioic acid), thediacid monomer for production of
Nylon, is produced by a chemical synthesis pathway from oleic acid
derived from Jatropha oil. The Polyon nylon product of JATROPHA OIL
PRODUCTS AND NYLON RESIN CORPORATION (JOPNC) will chemically
and physically conforms to the existing commercial Polyamide Resin
used in the industry.
USES
used for making shing nets, ropes, parachutes and type cords.
used as thread for textile manufacturing and sewing where
strong bond nylon is required.
101

used as plastic for making machine parts.

JAGLY (GLYCEROL MONOOLEATE (GMO) or GLYCEROL)

DESCRIPTION
The product name Jagly was derived from the words Jatropha oil (Ja-)
and Glycerol (-Gly). In producing nylon Resin from Jatropha oil,
saponication of crude Jatropha oil was done. This process produced a
by- product of GlycerolMonooleate. The table below summarized the
target properties of commercial Glycerol. The JOPNCs Jagly has the
following Properties:
USES
Primary and Auxiliary emulsiers.
Used as Lubricant and spreading agents in bath oils,
Pigment dispersants in makeup, slip agents in vanishing and

moisturizing creams.
Major uses include creams, lotions, hair rinses, make-up, shaving
preparations, conditioners and toiletries.

JOLI (LINOLEIC ACID)

102

DESCRIPTION
Linoleic acid is another by- product in the production of nylon resin
from Jatropha oil. It is a colorless liquid at room temperature. But it was
recovered in the process as crystal at low temperature.
USES
Linoleic acid is used in making quick-drying oils, which are useful in oil
paints and varnishes. It has also become increasingly popular in the
beauty products industry because of its benecial properties on the
skin. Research points to linoleic acid's anti-inflammatory, acne
reductive, and moisture retentive properties when applied topically on
103

the skin.

PRODUCT PACKAGING

The packaging of polyamide resin and other products of physic

nut (Jatropha curcas L.) oil is in the blue cylindrical drum for enclosing
and protecting it for distribution, storage, sale, and use. The storage
drum capacity is 55 gallon/208 liter, size (24w x 35h) open top with
lid and ring. Standard drums are 22.5 inches (572 mm) in diameter and
33.5 inches (851 mm) high ( Kelowna Drum Reconditioning). The
packaging also has a sticker which has different colors for different
products so that it will be easily distinguished. The printed detail of the
product in the sticker includes: (1) the Company name, JOPNC in order
to recognize the manufacturer for the product. It also gives a specic
distinction of the company to the other competitors; (2) Product name
for example, Polyon as the companys official product name came from
the joint name of polyamide (poly) and nylon (-on). (3) Product number
or batch number is imprinted for inventory purposes and for easy
product identication. If there will be any complaint in the product, the
product number will determine the batch that has defects and will be
104

analyzed by the companys researchers. (4) Manufacturing Date and

Date of Release is also imprinted on the sticker for inventory purposes
and for quality assurance in case of complaint. (5) For personal inquiry
and suggestions Plant Address and Contact Number is included. It
allows convenient way of communicating to potential investors and
buyers.
The customers will return the drum to the company once the
entire product contained was emptied. This strategy lessens the cost of
the product that was passed to the consumers and it also lessens the
expense of the company to buy storage drums.
