To install modeFRONTIER on Windows :
1.

Decompress the modeFRONTIER zip file.

2.

Run the

install.exe executable file and click Next in the Welcome window.

Note
If modeFRONTIER is already installed, the wizard will give a warning. Only one modeFRONTIER installation can
be present on the system at any time. Prior to installing, any old modeFRONTIER will have to be uninstalled.
3.

Carefully read the License Agreement and click the I Agree button to accept the terms.

Note
Choose the license type in the Onerous Clauses window and click the I Agree button.

4.

Select the checkboxes next to the components of modeFRONTIER you want to install and clear the check boxes next to
the components of modeFRONTIER you do not want to install. Click Next in the Choose Components window.

Select the Destination Folder in which modeFRONTIER is to be installed. Click the Browse button to select a different
folder. When the Destination Folder has been defined, click Next.

Note
modeFRONTIER will be installed in a directory named ESTECO\modeFRONTIER2014u1 in the previously selected
Destination Folder. A confirmation dialog box will therefore appear as shown below. Click the Yes button.

In the Choose Shortcuts window, you can choose to create additional shortcut icons on the desktop and in the quick launch
panel.

Define the user type for the installation. You can install the product for all users; otherwise the software can be installed only
for the current user by clearing the Create Icons for All Users check box. When done, click Next.

8.

View the summary of the components to be installed, additional shortcuts etc. If any settings need to be changed click Back
until the appropriate window is reached. Make necessary changes and click Next until the Pre installation Summary window appears.

Click Install to start the installation process.

10. Wait for the installation process to complete (i.e. when the progress bar reaches 100% and the Finish button is enabled).

11. Click the Finish button to exit the installation with or without selecting the Run modeFRONTIER 2014 Update 1 check
box. If you select the option, you will get a message as shown below.

12. Click OK. In the previous step, whether you select or not the Run modeFRONTIER 2014 Update 1 check box. you will
need to set up the license manager to run modeFRONTIER.

1.2. Uninstallation Procedure on Windows


To uninstall modeFRONTIER from Windows :
1.

Go to the modeFRONTIER installation folder where uninstall.exe is located (\ESTECO\modeFRONTIER2014u1).

2.

Double click

uninstall.exe executable file and click the Uninstall button in the Uninstall window. Alternatively, you can

also use Start|All Programs|ESTECO|modeFRONTIER 2014 Update 1|Uninstall

A confirmation dialog box will appear as shown below. Click the Yes button to start the uninstallation procedure.

Once the uninstallation is finished, following window will appear in which the Finish button is activated. Click the Finish
button to close the Setup Wizard.

Note that uninstallation removes all files and folders except the installation folder: \ESTECO\modeFRONTIER2014u1. It
can be removed manually.

An alternate method to uninstall modeFRONTIER is to use the install.exe file.


1.

Insert the modeFRONTIER installation CD in the CD drive.

2.

Double click

the install.exe executable file. The Setup Wizard will detect the already installed modeFRONTIER and

hence the Already Installed window will appear.

3.

Click the Uninstall button to start uninstallation. Following confirmation dialog box will appear.

4.

Click the Yes button to start uninstallation.

5.

Once the uninstallation is finished, following window will appear in which the Finish button is activated.

You can then continue with installation as described in the Installation Procedure on Windows or you can click the Cancel button
to exit the Setup Wizard.

1.3. How to Access a modeFRONTIER Server Installation


from a Remote Thin Client
A new option has been added to register a remote modeFRONTIER server installation in order to access modeFRONTIER from a
thin client running on Windows OS:
1.

Log on onto the server computer, install the modeFRONTIER software then share the disk and folders in the installation
path.

2.

Log on onto the client computer, use the Windows Explorer to connect to the server over the network (you neeed to map network drive).

3.

Launch regserver.exe to create the appropriate registry keys in the client computer and then launch frontier.exe.

The regserver.exe application writes registry keys and, if specified, creates associations between PRJ files and modeFRONTIER.
Options available are:
1.

* -remove: clean registry (remove all mF information).

* -na: do not associate .prj extension with mF.

Known issue: cannot access a Windows 64bit server installation from a Windows 32bit client machine.

2.1. Installation Procedure on Linux/Unix


Note
In case of Generic UNIX, HP-UX and SUN Solaris SPARC platforms, the JRE libraries must be already installed in the
machine where modeFRONTIER will reside, since no JRE is provided in the modeFRONTIER distribution package.
Please see http://java.sun.com/ for further details on download and installation of the JRE libraries.
To install modeFRONTIER on Linux/Unix:
1.

Insert modeFRONTIER installation CD in the CD drive and mount the drive.

2.

Open a Command Terminal window and go to the folder where install.sh is located (e.g. go to /
data/modeFRONTIER2014u1LINUX or /data/modeFRONTIER2014u1UNIX depending on the operating system).

3.

Run the install.sh executable using the command ./install.sh

4.

The operating system is detected automatically and following instructions will appear in the Command Terminal depending
on the operating system.

Choose the Graphical Wizard or Textual Wizard as the installation mode. Click the appropriate link below for further description.

Click the Next button in the Welcome window.

Note

Select the check boxes next to the components of modeFRONTIER you want to install and clear the check boxes next to the
components of modeFRONTIER you do not want to install. Click Next in the Choose Components window.

Select the Destination Folder in which modeFRONTIER is to be installed. Click Browse to select a different folder. When
the Destination Folder has been defined click Next in the Choose Install Location window.

Note
modeFRONTIER will be installed in a directory named ESTECO/modeFRONTIER2014u1 in the previously selected
Destination Folder. A confirmation dialog box therefore appears like in the image shown below. Click the Yes button.

5.

View the summary of the components that will be installed. If any settings need to be changed, click the Back button until the
appropriate window is reached. When done, click Next until the Pre installation Summary window appears. Click the Install button to start the installation process in the Pre installation Summary window.

Wait for the installation process to complete (i.e. when the progress bar reaches 100% and the Finish button is enabled in the
Install Complete window).

Click the Finish button to exit the installation with or without selecting the Run modeFRONTIER 2014 Update 1 check
box.

With Textual Wizard chosen as the installation mode, following instructions will appear.

Choose the first option to have a complete installation. You can also choose to install only the FLEXlm License Manager by
selecting the second option or you can exit the installation process using the third option.

You will then go to the License Agreement section.

Read the license agreement carefully. Pressing the Q key on the keyboard, you can jump to the end of the license agreement.
There, you will get the following message.

Type yes and press the Enter key.

After pressing the Enter key, following options are available for installation.

You can choose the complete or minimal installation. If you choose minimal installation, then the documentation will not be
installed. Press the Enter key.

The default directory for installation will be given as shown below.

Type the full path (e.g. /data) where the modeFRONTIER is to be installed and press Enter key. Ensure that you have all the
valid permissions to the specified installation directory.

After entering the required path correctly, following options appear provided specified installation directory exists.

Press the Enter key to start the installation or use the second option to change the installation directory.

Read carefully the information in the terminal window about the usage of the license manager daemons for modeFRONTIER.

Press the Enter key to get the final information in the terminal window as shown below.

2.2. Uninstallation Procedure on Linux/

Type yes and press Enter key if you want to update your system start-up configuration in order to run the license manager
daemons at system boot time. A link to modeFRONTIER license manager, estecolmd, will be created. You must be super
user (root) to perform this operation. If you type yes you will be prompted to insert the root password to continue with the
operation. If you type no, then the textual installation wizard exits with a message as shown below.

2.2. Uninstallation Procedure on Linux/Unix


To uninstall modeFRONTIER on Linux/Unix:
1.

Open a terminal window and go to the modeFRONTIER installation folder where uninstall.sh is located
(/ESTECO/modeFRONTIER2014u1).

2.

Run the uninstall.sh using the command ./uninstall.sh. As per the operating system, following instructions will appear in the
terminal window, where you can select the uninstallation mode.

If you do not want to continue with uninstallation, press Ctrl+C keys. Otherwise press the Enter key to continue, i.e., to start
uninstallation.

To exit the installation, press Ctrl+C keys. If you press Enter key, you will go to the License Agreement section. Type no and
press Enter key to exit the installation or type yes and press Enter key to continue with the installation as described in the
Textual Wizard Installation Mode .

6.

be removed manually.
