Sun
Many sun plants can also cope with light shade. Sun plants are those that need direct
sunlight for about six hours a day to thrive.
Shade
Shade is a continuum from partial shade with two to three hours of sun per day or filtered light through trees, or deep shade which receives no sunlight at all. Some gardens
with deciduous trees have seasonal shade conditions. Many shade plants have more
discreet flowers and are characterized by distinctive foliage that provide gardens with
a long season of interest.

Our fruit tree, bush, cane, vine, and plant choices enable you to provide an edible array
of economical and relatively easy to grow landscape options.
Provide your customers with a practical addition intermingled among other plants or in
a planned fruit garden. Trees planted in a lawn or border add an attractive feature to the
landscape. Some fruit trees, canes, and bushes are well suited for growing in trained
forms such as espaliers, cordons, pyramids, and fans. These formed fruits work well
where space is limited but do require more pruning to maintain there desired growth
habit once established. Walls, pergolas, fences, or arches also provide ideal sites for
trained fruits. Planted in containers fruits can give an extended production period when
moved under cover during the cold winter months.

Tropicals
In sunny areas groundcovers are a low maintenance alternative to the most ubiquitous groundcover of all the lawn. They are densely growing, spreading plants that
can out compete weeds. They are useful where maintenance of a garden or a lawn
would be difficult, for example slopes. They are also planted around shrubs, trees,
walks and between stones to create a living carpet, a finished look, in place of
mulch. Some ground covers are evergreen, others die back like other perennials in
Northern gardens. Pachysandra terminalis, Vinca minor and Hedera are evergreen.
Some do not have conspicuous flowers but are characterized by distinctive or colorful foliage or fall color that adds to their appeal. They are very versatile plants.
Blooming Tropicals
These exotic blooms add a rainbow of color. Available in pot sizes from 4.5 to
25 gallon. Many of them are also available in the following forms: standard, pom,
trellised and topiary.
Spreading
Those varieties with a vigorous spreading habit can withstand moderate foot traffic
so may be used in place of grass in some areas. They are also useful for soil stabilization. Others with a spreading habit can be planted in crevices between stone
paving softening the harshness of the stone and provide a splash of color.

Trailing
Foliage Tropicals
Trailing habit choices are at there best when planted on the top of or between
stones in rock walls.
More compact and refined groundcovers are good for softening the edges along
paths, and planted along the front of borders.

Natives
Annual Grasses
Most native species are found in lightly wooded settings or bright thickets in undisturbed areas and now many nurseries. The best use of them is to naturalize the landscape but many of these species are perfect in many garden spaces
alongside newer cultivars.
Many grasses offered as annuals are perennial in life cycle but are tender so
will not winter for us in New England
therefore they are sold as an annual.
