Introduction
As Principal and foundation of Islamic faith, Muslims has to believe in 6 (Six) article of faith,
namely Believe in Allah, His Angels, his books, his messengers, the Last Day and His
Decree.[1]
These believe are very much stipulated in the Quran and the Sunnah of the prophet .
Righteousness is not that you turn your faces toward the east or the west, but [true]
righteousness is [in] one who believes in Allah, the Last Day, the angels, the Book, and the
prophets and gives wealth, in spite of love for it, to relatives, orphans, the needy, the traveler,
those who ask [for help], and for freeing slaves; [and who] establishes prayer and gives
zakah; [those who] fulfill their promise when they promise; and [those who] are patient in
poverty and hardship and during battle. Those are the ones who have been true, and it is those
who are the righteous. (Surah Baqarah: 177;Sahih international)
[All] praise is [due] to Allah, who has sent down upon His Servant the Book and has not
made therein any deviance.( Surah Kahfi:1;sahih international)
And We send down of the Qur'an that which is healing and mercy for the believers, but it
does not increase the wrongdoers except in loss. .( Surah Isra:82;sahih international)

And extrapolating from the Sunnah of the prophet , when the Angel Jibril, ask regarding
the tenets of faith to which the prophet replied,
It is to believe in the Allah, his angels, his books, his messengers, the Last Day and His
Decree.[2]
a number of names which formulates the characteristic of the Book. One particular name of
the Quran is Shifa[3] which translate as a characteristic Quran as a source of healing
strengthen by other verses of the Quran which speak of the this characteristic.
And if We had made it a non-Arabic Qur'an, they would have said, "Why are its verses not
explained in detail [in our language]? Is it a foreign [recitation] and an Arab [messenger]?"
Say, "It is, for those who believe, a guidance and cure." And those who do not believe - in
their ears is deafness, and it is upon them blindness. Those are being called from a distant
place.(surah Fussilat:44;sahih international)
Thus from the above evidences we firmly establish a source of Healing is the Quran.

And is it not sufficient for them that We revealed to you the Book which is recited to them?
Indeed in that is a mercy and reminder for a people who believe.(surah Ankabut:51;sahih
international)
Remedies for physical illness are divided into 4(four) types [5],
Firstly medicine that affects the temperament of the illness, this form of remedy dictates
intimate knowledge and analysis that affect the ailment by this we refer to someone for their
advice and their knowledge of these sciences.it is also recorded in numerous hadith the
prophet , prescribe material items as medicine for example, when the prophet prescribe
camel milk and urine for the traveller that were sick [6] And the Quran outline the medicinal
effects of Honey as found in Surah Nahl verse 69.
Secondly, preserving the general health of one-self by means of material nourishments or
maintaining physical strength. This notion is reaffirmed by the Quran.
[Fasting for] a limited number of days. So whoever among you is ill or on a journey [during
them] - then an equal number of days [are to be made up].(surah Al Baqarah:184;sahih
international)
From the above verve, has allowed the sick, the traveller to break their fast such as to
preserve and maintain the physical strength.

And whoever among you is ill or has an ailment of the head [making shaving necessary must
offer] a ransom of fasting [three days] or charity or sacrifice (surah Al Baqarah:196;sahih
international)
has allowed the sick and those suffering from ailment of the scalp to shave of the head,
which by norm is prohibited while wearing ihram. Thus this also gives an example of
removing of harmful substance that may harm the general health of the body.
The fourth means of seeking a remedy is by prophetic remedy using invocations of the Quran
and Sunnah. This Fourth manner will be explained in the next chapter.

And We send down of the Qur'an that which is healing and mercy for the believers, but it
does not increase the wrongdoers except in loss. .( Surah Isra:82;sahih international)
The word , in above verse indicates the entirety of Quran and not suggesting only a
section of the Quran as cure encompassing both Physical and spiritual illness. [7]
From the Hadith [8], 'A'isha reported: that when any of the members of the household fell ill
Allah's Messenger ( )used to blow over him by reciting Mu'awwidhatan, and when he
suffered from illness of which he died I used to blow over him and rubbed his body with his
hand for his hand had greater healing power than my hand.
From Hadith [9] Narrated by Abu Sa`id Al kudri: Some of the companions of the Prophet
( )went on a journey till they reached some of the 'Arab tribes (at night). They asked the
latter to treat them as their guests but they refused. The chief of that tribe was then bitten by a
snake (or stung by a scorpion) and they tried their best to cure him but in vain. Some of them
said (to the others), "Nothing has benefited him, will you go to the people who resided here at
night, it may be that some of them might possess something (as treatment)," They went to the
group of the companions (of the Prophet ( ) )and said, "Our chief has been bitten by a
snake (or stung by a scorpion) and we have tried everything but he has not benefited. Have
you got anything (useful)?" One of them replied, "Yes, by Allah! I can recite a Ruqya, but as
you have refused to accept us as your guests, I will not recite the Ruqya for you unless you
fix for us some wages for it." They agrees to pay them a flock of sheep. One of them then
went and recited (Surat-ul-Fatiha): 'All the praises are for the Lord of the Worlds' and puffed
over the chief who became all right as if he was released from a chain, and got up and started
walking, showing no signs of sickness. They paid them what they agreed to pay. Some of
them (i.e. the companions) then suggested dividing their earnings among themselves, but the
one who performed the recitation said, "Do not divide them till we go to the Prophet ()
and narrate the whole story to him, and wait for his order." So, they went to Allah's
Messenger ( )and narrated the story. Allah's Messenger ( )asked, "How did you
come to know that Surahtul- Fatiha was recited as Ruqya?" Then he added, "You have done
the right thing. Divide (what you have earned) and assign a share for me as well." The
Prophet ( )smiled thereupon.

part of destiny.
The above hadith expresses the understanding of the companion and affirmation of the
prophet, by seeking a cure by the stipulated methods and by abandoning or negating the
curative effect and preventive measures are contrary to the correct method and reliance of
.As matters of fact, sole dependence upon supplication and disavowing external means,
weaken reliance in , as the true essence is to acquire what benefits himself and his religion

while fending off what harm himself and his religion. Otherwise in truth, the person will not
be implementing the commandments and wisdom.
In conclusion, As Muslim we have to establish firm faith in Quran as a Cure, seeking a
treatment with it whiles applying supplementary mean to expedite the effects of remedy. This
methodology provides a divine element, which aid the treatment process and inducing a
positive effect on his heart strengthening piety and asceticism. This process in reality has a
pacifying effect and reaffirms the heart, pointing to the correct approach of dependence in
