ULASAN ERGONOMI

Ergonomic aspects which considered in GOENTING are anthropometry,

usability, posture analysis, and product material. Anthropometry used to determine
the appropriate size of GOENTING product so that it provides comfort to the user.
The dimensions of body that determined with anthropometry are maximum hand
grip diameter and hand width (metacarpal). The hand grip diameters data is
needed to determine the diameter of the handle on GOENTING product while the
hand widths data is used to determine the length of the rubber handgrip.
There are three design principles using anthropometric data that must be
considered (Wignjosoebroto, 2013):
1. Designing for extreme individuals when appropriate, using the 5th or 95th
percentile
2. Design for adjustable range where minimum fatigue, optimum performance,
comfort, and safety is required, using the range 5th percentile - 95th
3. Design for the average person when adjustability is not feasible, using the 50th
percentile
From these three principles, the principle used to determine the diameter of the
handle on GOENTING product is design for average person. So, the percentage of
population to be accomodated is the 50th percentile. If the percentile used is the
5th percentile (for extreme individuals) then user with large diameter grip may not
hold GOENTING product comfortably because the handles diameter is too small.
Meanwhile, if the percentile used is the 95th percentile (for extreme individual)
then user with small grip diameter cant reach all parts of GOENTINGs handle.
From these two considerations, percentile used for GOENTING product is the
50th percentile so that users with large and small grip diameter can hold
GOENTINGs handle comfortably.
Meanwhile, the principle used to determine the length of rubber handgrip is
design for extreme individual. So, the percentage of population to be accomodated

is the 95th percentile. If the percentile used is 5th percentile, user with 50th and 95th
percentile will have direct contact with polymer, rather than rubber. So that users
with 5th, 50th, and 95th percentile can grasp the rubber handgrip and have no direct
contact with polymer, percentile used to determine the length of rubber handgrip
is 95th percentile. Here is the anthropometric data of hand grip diameter and hand
width metacarpal of Indonesian people that used to determine the size of
GOENTING product:

Based on anthropometric data above, the hand grip diameter of GOENTING

product is 47mm and the length of rubber handgrip is 88mm.
Beside determining size, the material of GOENTING product that have direct
contact with user needs to be considered so that it wont harm the user. Part of
GOENTING product that have direct contact with user is handlegrip. The material
used for handlegrip is rubber. Rubber has the characteristics of a strong, elastic,
not fireproof, heat and electrical insulator, is impermeable to water, and soft.
Characteristics of soft rubber that will provide comfort to the user while holding
the handle. In addition, rubber is also not harmful to the body despite having
direct contact mainly with the user's hand. It is inferred from the rubber chemical
content below:
