The purpose of this assignment is to both widen your knowledge and understanding of
developments in music, and to develop your skills in the research of familiar and unfamiliar
musical styles. To have a vast and rich appreciation of the history of specific movements
in music is to be greatly beneficial in your development as a musician/music technologist.
You have been asked to contribute to a new media project charting the development of
popular music throughout history. You are to produce an article, podcast or video
documentary analysing the musical, cultural and other factors that occurred within a
significant period of musical history. Your article, podcast or video documentary should
analyse key practitioners and selected works within the context of the time they existed.
This will also involve examining other factors (e.g cultural, technological, political) that
influence the development of music in your chosen period.

this information with mention of the time periods and most notable artists
of the movement. Select the most appropriate resources from your
research.
