Polymeric Dispersing Agent for Water based

Paints, Inks and Ceramics
Dispex N 40 ap is a versatile polymeric dispersing agent for a wide range
of water borne coatings, inks, ceramics, and rubber latex dispersions. The
neutralizing alkali used in Dispex N 40 ap is sodium neutralized hence is
low odor which makes it ideal for water-borne low odor interior paint.
Dispex N 40 ap shows superior stability and tint compatibility. The product
is almost colourless making it suitable for white paint.
It can be used in most flat to low sheen/semi gloss formulations. Dispex N
40 ap is compatible with all styrene acrylics, straight acrylics and vinyl
acetate based copolymers used as binders for paint.

Processing
The efficiency of the wetting depends primarily on the comparative surface
tension properties of pigment and water as well as the viscosity of the
resultant mix. Dispex N 40 ap adsorb on the pigment surface and facilitate
the liquid/solid interfacial interaction and help to replace the air/solid interface
by liquid medium/solid interface.
It is recommended to add pigment to a heavily stirred water containing the
dispersing agent as opposed to addition of dispersing agent to a pigment
slurry. In general the pH of the final preparation should be in the region of 8.5
to obtain optimum dispersing efficiency.
As batch to batch of a specific pigment or dispersion type might vary, it is
recommended to use 1.2 to 1.5 times the demand optimum level of the
dispersing agent. Although, a significantly higher dose has a adverse effect
on the paint/ink performance.

Safety
General
Attention must be paid to the normal precautions for handling chemicals and
to the measures prescribed in the local health regulations. The work place
must be well ventilated. Skin care measures should be adopted and safety
goggles should be worn.
Safety Data Sheet
When using this product, the information and advice given in our Safety
Data Sheet should be observed. Due attention should also be given to the
precautions necessary for handling chemicals.

Storage
Dispex N 40 ap must not come with metals or alloys that are susceptible to
corrosion. During storage it is particularly important to ensure that containers
are closed tightly; in storage tanks the air must always be saturated with
water vapour. Undue heating must be avoided, as much exposure to frost.
Given adequate tank and storage hygiene Dispex N 40 ap can be kept for
about 6 months at 10-30C.
