Special Report: Natural Gas as a C1 Chemicals Feedstock Supply and Pricing
Report Overview
Subjects addressed:

Country by country analysis of existing and potential

growth markets for natural gas as a feedstock.

Review of natural gas reserves, historical and

prospective production profiles.

Historical and projected supply-demand balances of

natural gas, including competing energy uses.

The findings and conclusions of the report will provide guidance

to clients on the future supply and pricing of natural gas as a
feedstock on a country by country basis. As such this report
addresses key questions such as:

Which markets are the leaders in natural gas use as a

feedstock?

How is gas priced in these markets?

Review of existing and prospective infrastructure for

gas transportation and distribution.

What is the future natural gas resource availability in these

existing markets?

Overview of legal and regulatory framework.

Analysis of current and future pricing mechanisms.

Will these future resources be more costly to extract putting

upward pressure on gas prices?

Comparative economics for key C1 chemicals

(methanol, ammonia, urea, oxoalcohols).

What impact has the shale gas revolution in the USA had
on the traditional markets?

Regional analysis of downstream product markets.

How will the growth of shale gas outside North America and
the discovery or large reserves in areas such as East Africa
impact the feedstock market?

Will new countries emerge as important suppliers of natural

gas as a feedstock?

Is the price of using natural gas as a feedstock going to

increase around the world or will there still be some low
cost suppliers?

How will changes in gas supply and pricing impact the

comparative economics of the supply of chemical and
petrochemical products from these markets to the main
end-use markets of North America, Europe and Asia.

Natural gas is widely used in the chemical and

petrochemical industries around the world both as a
provider of energy to fuel the chemical processes and
also as a raw material feedstock for conversion into
chemicals for further processing. The rapid increase
in low cost shale gas production in the USA and the
discovery of vast reserves of natural gas offshore
East Africa has led observers to question whether the
traditional suppliers of gas as a feedstock can maintain
their position in the market. This has been exacerbated
by demand beginning to outstrip production in a number
of countries, especially in the Middle East and Southeast
Asia, leading to increasing import requirements, which
has increased the pressure to raise gas prices which
could undermine the economics of using gas as a
feedstock.
This report will consider the availability, now and in the
future, of natural gas as a C1 chemicals feedstock both
for the key existing markets and potential future markets,
and look in detail at the pricing of gas in each of these
markets. The current and prospective pricing will then be
used to consider the comparative economics for the key
chemicals for the different markets.

The report will provide a valuable resource for chemical

and petrochemical companies in considering future market
developments and investment decisions.
