Reflective Essay on Presentation and

Debate
This essay will describe the analyses I did for the learning experience I have
received by participating in the class debate. The following structured paragraphs
and sentences will demonstrate a flowing logic and a depth of argument of the
whole process.
My first step and the most difficult one was to understand important advice which
applies to writing, Murray Rowena(2005) encouraging fellow academic writers to
force themselves to write something every day and not to wait for the mood.
Getting started each day it is very difficult but it Is surprising how effective this
strategy can be in keeping you moving forward.
Prioritizing the activities starting with the urgent ones and planning out what I was
going to tackle on that particular day helped me to understand how to keep in
balance the important activities which has more significance and how to judge
which tasks to carry out on that particular day.
Developing my reading skills was crucial for I needed an overall picture of a section
of writing and reading particular sections more than once if they are difficult to
understand or important. A very important advice I founded in Clanchy and
Ballard(1999), which recommended the paragraph skimming.
Avoiding unintentional plagiarism helped me focus on what is important in what I
am reading or hearing, understanding and remembering materials, making
connections and being able to structure the assignment I am researching. In this
way, I am able to provide a personal record of what I have learned, my questions
and my ideas. As everyones notes will be unique to them, the benefits of notetaking personalized my learning and helped me seeing the overall picture and how
to use my own words in this assignment.
One of the three most important tools of persuasion identified by Aristotle is the
logical appeal. The other two are emotional appeals and ethical appeals. As being
often encourage to place an emphasis on factual information, to present it in a
logical manner, and to be rational in my decision-making on a business course and
environment.
Having individual feelings and personal needs makes me be aware that people use
most of the time the emotions to persuade. In the process of ending my work, I
have realized that I need to be strictly aware of my emotions in order to keep them
in balance and play with them. I have made a small list of emotions which Aristotle
made me believe that we have contact in every moment of the day:

anger and calmness;

friendship and enmity;

fear and confidence;

shame and shamelessness;
kindness and unkindness;
pity and indignation;
envy and emulation.

In order to manipulate audiences, you need rhetoric to be a way to cleverly arrange

words to manipulate audiences. At least, this is what Socrates (as interpreted by
Plato) believed.Aristotle believed that the best rhetoric was successful because it
was truthful. In some cases, emotions will over-rule logic because people are
persuaded not just by logic but by appeals to the individual and group
emotions(Golleman 1995). In the present moment, I find myself to experience that
the most effective social debate is learning to speak the truth and this was one of
the trickiest parts of the group work. I have found that the cultural differences are
not the only difficult issue in the process of persuade but the language barriers as
well. Learning to express myself telling the truth was very releasing and efficient in
terms of organizing the group tasks. Both greek philosophers believed that there
was more a spiritual role for rhetoric and the art of persuasion (Edgett, 2002).
The professional competencies and skills I have learned during this group work had
helped me understand how to accommodate with others perceptions and how to
adapt to their own personal development and skills. There are infinite ways of
thinking, of perceptions and attitudes to face and I strongly believe that this is very
hard to do without this basic of personal development. These skills are very
important on a daily basis interaction in the professional environment and family
and personal life.
