Trailing Through Town

Jimmy Uphaus is having a herd dispersion as he

and some cowhands conducted a cattle drive from
out on Willow Creek through Glasgow, the end
of the trail being the Glasgow Stockyards. Riders
were Jimmy Uphaus, Josey Uphaus, Bob Walden,

Cal Shipp, Walter Ozark and Bill Murch. A total of

119 bred heifers (they were being pregnancy tested
today, calving is expected in late March) will go
through the sales ring on Thursday, February 11th.

The American Red Cross urgently needs blood

donors to make an appointment to give this winter.
Eligible blood donors of all types are needed,
especially those with O, AB, B negative and A negative.
Blood is needed to respond to emergencies large and
small, across the country every day.

For Heather Von Glahn, it was a personal emergency
her 8-year-old daughters leukemia diagnosis that
inspired her to make the commitment to give blood
regularly.Ive seen blood save her life at least 10 times,
said Von Glahn. When friends and family ask what
they can do for my daughter, I tell them to donate blood.
It matters so much!
Blood donations are urgently needed now and
throughout the winter to maintain a sufficient blood
supply for patients in need. Make an appointment to
donate blood by downloading the free Red Cross Blood

Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital and Billings
Clinic will use telehealth technology to offer the
Lifestyle Balance Telehealth Program. This program
sets challenging, reasonable, safe and effective goals for
weight loss and exercise. Research has demonstrated
that people who are at risk for diabetes can lower that
risk by up to 58% if they become more active and lose at
least 5 7 % of their body weight.

The Lifestyle Balance sessions will be taught by a
trained team consisting of a nurse diabetes educator,
a registered dietitian/nutritionist, a licensed clinical
social worker, and a physical therapist. They will
provide the knowledge and framework for participants
to build healthy habits into their daily life and carry
those behaviors forward for a lifetime. The sessions
focus on nutrition, exercise, stress management, and
lifestyle changes. Sessions will run over a years time
with weekly, then bimonthly, then monthly sessions.

Fish & Wildlife Commission to meet in Helena Thursday

Montanas Fish & Wildlife Commission will meet
at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, February 11th at Montana Wild
in Helena. People may listen to the meeting online at
the Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks website or view
a live television feed of the meeting at FWP Region 6
headquarters in Glasgow.

During the meeting, commissioners plan to take final
action on several issues, including:
2016 and 2017 elk hunting season dates, lengths, quota
ranges and structures. Some of the more significant
proposed changes include establishment of early and/
or late elk shoulder seasons in 43 hunting districts and
liberalizing general season opportunities in many elk
districts. The season proposals were on the agenda
of numerous public meetings throughout Montana
in January. Many of the final proposals that will be
presented to the commission by Montana Fish, Wildlife
and Parks have been modified to reflect more than 700
public comments, both from the meetings and written
communications.
2016 and 2017 hunting regulations, season dates, quota
ranges and structure for deer, antelope, moose, bighorn
sheep, mountain goats, bison, black bears, mountain
lions, upland game birds and migratory game birds.

Quota ranges for a Helena urban deer plan.
Maximum numbers of deer, elk and antelope that
can be harvested during damage hunts, management
seasons and wildlife health authorization quotas.
A five-year commercial carp fishing permit for Lake

The Commission will address the proposed 2016 early
and late season migratory bird seasons and regulations
within the new Federal framework for public comment.
The commission also will be asked to endorse
FWPs fish and wildlife budget priorities for the 2017
legislative session. FWPs enforcement division will ask the
commission to amend its exotic wildlife rules to address
the proposed classification of Kinkajou/Honey Bear as a
controlled species.

Pending is a potential final decision on a proposed
channel-migration easement on the Navratil Property on
the lower Yellowstone River. The commission will hear its
first presentation on the proposed negotiation of waterright lease agreements with willing water users on Deep
Creek to legally protect in-stream flow levels.
The full agenda and additional information about
each item are online at FWPs website, fwp.mt.gov and
