Course Materials
Course Description:
This course emphasizes on engineering design and analysis using computer
aided design (CAD) software tools.
The two key goals of this course are to:
1) Use CAD software tools to perform engineering design analysis,
2) Understand the basic concepts and building blocks of geometric
transformations and modeling theory that underlie many CAD
software tools and computational geometry related problems.

Prerequisites:
Linear algebra. Proficiency in C and C++ or Matlab.
Proficiency in CAD softwares like Creo/Solidworks, and Pro-E

Recommended Textbook
Geometric Modeling (third edition) by Michael Mortenson, Industrial Press

Inc, New York, 2006.

Geometric Transformations (second edition) by Michael Mortenson,
Industrial Press Inc, New York, 2007.
Curves and Surfaces for Computer Graphics by David Salomon, Springer.
Handouts and pointers to papers from the literature (to be posted on MAE

What is computer aided design?

Computer-aided design (CAD) is the use of computer systems to assist in

the creation, modification, analysis, or optimization of a design.

CAD software is used to increase the productivity of the designer, improve

the quality of design, improve communications through documentation, and

to create a database for manufacturing.
