WINTER INTERNSHIP

I completed my winter internship at JINDAL DRILLING & INDUSTREIS, MUMBAI

along with five of my classmates. The period of our internship was one month
starting from 17th of November to 17 of December. This internship changed my
outlook towards our industry. It helped me recognize the field i wanted to opt for
and pursue my career in.
During the first week of our internship we were given a conference room to study
the previous project reports and read about directional drilling and MWD tools in
which that branch specialises. We were divided into two groups and assigned
topics for our project namely Evaluation of bit performance in directional
drilling and Evaluation of drilling parameters in directional drilling.
In the office we were given Daily Progress Reports commonly known as DPRs to
be filled in MS EXCEL from which we got to learn the daily activities taking place
on a rig and several other details such as the type of bit used on the site, the
weight on bit applied, flow rate of the pump and the bottom hole assembly. Also
we had regular interactive sessions with the General Manager of the company
which went for an hour or so during which we asked him queries related to the
drilling sector. We were able to grasp a lot knowledge and information on what
actually drilling means and how it is done in practice.
For the second and third week we were sent to the company`s workshop located
at Nagothane where we learnt a great deal on assembly of a SDMM that is a
steerable downhole mud motor used for deviating a well and the Measurement
While Drilling tools. We gained on hands on experience on assembling the
equipments, and understand their working which would not have been possible
otherwise. There also we had regular interactive sessions with the heads of
various departments and were daily assessed by the Workshop Manager for what
we had learnt on that day.
For the last week of our internship we were assigned the task to complete the
project using all that we had learnt in the workshop as well as in the office and
give a presentation to the staff present at the office. With their constant help and
guidance throughout our internship programme we were able to successfully
complete and present our project. As a whole this entire month long internship
gave me an insight of what our OIL and GAS industry is about and changed my
mindset towards a more practical approach to studies and overcoming any
problem and was a very healthy learning experience which everyone should go
through.

I consider being selected in the college cricket team an achievement because
that was a phase where my willingness to achieve a specific target and the

never say die attitude helped me a great deal. Without any vacancy in the team,
my consistent performance, will power and the spark to thrive for a position in
the team is what kept me from giving up and create a position where I was best
suited for the team and not only create a position but also sustain it for more
than a year backed my consistent performances as an all rounder that proved to
be fruitful for the team.

The attributes that will help me succeed in work place and make me an
organizational asset are my leadership skills, ability to adapt to diverse situations
and a team player.
I honed my leadership skills and utilized them by being the student council
member in my school where I represented all the students of my school. This is
where i realized the importance of networking as well.
Being a member of the school cricket team for 3 consecutive years and the
college cricket team for more than a year helped me become a team player. It
made me open to different perceptions of a single problem and helped me
become capable of gelling up with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.

From all areas of the energy sector I've been exposed to, Drilling is something
that has caught my interest.
Qualities
Every well is different and demanding. The challenges we will have to overcome
by applying basic sciences and innovative ideas is what enthralls me. In spite of
having to work in tough environments and being subjected to physical and
mental wear, I think I would do justice to this field and it would in turn help me
grow professionally,

Amongst all the things I have experienced, getting selected in the college cricket
team has been one of my biggest achievements. This mattered to me the most
because I believed that my passion for cricket could be fueled by being a part of
the same. My goal was to be on the team, and my encouragement was a "never
say die" attitude. I played consistently and gave in all my efforts. In spite of there
being no vacancy in the team, my consistent performance, will power and the
spark to thrive for a position in the team is what kept me from giving up.
Eventually, the senior players recognized my perseverance and it was regarding
as I managed to create a position as an all-rounder in the team and have been
able to sustain it for over an year. Being a cricketer encompasses virtues such as
commitment, strategy, passion and most importantly team spirit which I feel this
game helped me highlight.

The attributes that will help me succeed in work place and make me an
organizational asset are my leadership skills, ability to adapt to diverse situations
and a team player.

As a budding student yet to face the oil and gas industry, I want to experience
the best this industry has to offer. I want to work in an environment where people
work hand-in-hand and strive to provide the best possible results, where
boundaries are infinite and opportunities are abundant. I want to learn as much
as I can and in turn use their knowledge for the betterment of the society.
I strongly believe working with Shell will fulfill all my aspirations and will provide
me with a platform where I can showcase my abilities and bring out the best in
me.
At the same time, I feel that I will do justice working in Shell and I would be an
asset for the company.
