PRODUCTS AFFECTED:
The BFA 2.2.0.0 ESX3.5 U4 DUD release includes a fix for this issue. Brocade expects to release this
upgrade in early June 2010.
Bulletin Overview
The BFA driver does not load when installing BFA 2.1.0.0 ESX3.5 U4 DUD if only BR-1010 or BR-1020
cards are present in the server. This defect is documented in Defect 297861.

Problem Statement
The installation of BFA 2.1.0.0 ESX3.5 U4 DUD does not load the BFA driver when only BR-1010 or BR1020 cards are present in the server. This issue does not happen if BR-415, BR-425, BR-815 or BR825 HBAs is installed in the system. Also, this failure does not occur if a combination of BR-415, BR425, BR-815, BR-825 and BR-1010 or BR-1020 cards are installed in the server.

Risk assessment
If the customer installs BFA 2.1.0.0 ESX3.5 U4 DUD they will be unable to discover LUNs. Since the
LUNs are undiscovered, any attempt to install an OS image will fail.
Symptoms
Since the installer cannot find the target LUNs to install the OS, an error message dialog is displayed
to the user.
Workaround
Option 1: Upgrade to VMware ESX 3.5 U5
Option 2: Execute the workaround instructions listed below. Before executing the workaround, verify
that no other storage devices other than the boot from SAN (BFA) devices are attached to
the server. The procedure listed below provides a sequence of steps to load the BFA driver.

1. Boot BFA 2.1.0.0 ESX 3.5 U4 DUD with only BR-1010 or BR-1020 installed in the server.

4. When the installer warns that, there are no hard drives to install, left-click on yes.

Corrective Action
Option 1: Upgrade to VMware ESX 3.5 U5 using BFA 2.1.0.0 U5 DUD. Contact Brocade Support to
obtain a VMware ESX 3.5 U5 FC Driver Update Disk
Option 2: Upgrade to 2.2.0.0 BFA DUD when it becomes available in June 2010.
