Analysis of Credits Used

I will be analysing the credits used in the 2013 thriller film The
Call. A title sequence is the way a film presents their title,
Production Company, cast members and main production
members. There may or may not be accompanying music. They are now usually
shown as text on a blank screen or static pictures, or sometimes on top of action in
the sequence.
There is an opening shot of the title
sequence from which the audience are able
to identify the distribution company TriStar
who contributed towards the films financing
and the method by which the film should be
exhibited or made available for viewing.
This is the first company that is shown
which suggests to the audience its very
significant compared to the other production companies as it may have had a bigger
role to play.

The next shots are of WWE Studios and Troika Pictures which are the 2
companies that produced the film. These are the 2 companies that have created the
film with relation to budgeting, scheduling, casting etc.

This is followed by a shot which reminds the audience of the two production
companies again, along with Amasia Entertainment that the audience havent been
shown yet.

This shot tells the audience who the
director of the film is. Brad Anderson is
an award winning film director, best
known for having directed other films
such as The Machinist. He was
nominated for The Edgar Award for
Best Motion Screenplay and won at
the Deauville Film Festival. From this
shot the audience become aware that
Brad Anderson had a main and vital part in the making of this film.

This birds eye view shot of the main

actress is shown straight after the
directors name. From this we know
Halle Berry plays an important role in
this film and plays a role of a main
female protagonist. Halle Berry is a
well known actress, she won an
Academy Award for Best Actress in
2002 for her performance in Monsters
Ball and has won a golden globe. This
encourages people to watch the film because there is a well known popular actress
starring in it.

This is the title of the film, presenting

the films name which fades away and
dissapears from the screen. The
image of a well-lit city with
skyscrapers suggests the film is going
to be set in a busy location.

the cast members name. These are the names of the characters who play the
supporting roles alongside the main actor Halle Berry. Because they are the first 2
names shown for the supporting actors it suggests they still play fairly significant
roles compared to the others.

The next shot displays the name of

the rest of the cast members who
may have played slightly less
significant roles this is made
conscious to the audience as their
names are grouped together and
not seperately like the others.

This shot that is shown after the

names of the cast tells the viewers
the names of the people
responsible for hiring the actors
also known as the casting
directors.

The name of the costume

designer is shown in this shot, this
is who was responsible for the
clothing that the characrters were
wearing. They play a key role in
the film as these designers set the
mood and therefore add realism to
the films narrative.
This shot shows the audience who
was responsible
for the sound
design in the film.
This is an
important role as
good sound design can make a decent
film phenomonal.

This shot tells us who was responsible

for the music in the film, this is an
important role as music is one of the key
aspects that create a certain atmopshere
in a films narrative.

This shot makes the audience aware of

who was responsible for assembling all
the shots within the sequence. The film
director works alongside the films editor
to make sure the narrative of the film is
made obvious to the audience.

The following shot tells the audience

who was resposible for production
design, this is who would be responsible
for the visual concept of a film.

This shows the audience who the co-executive and executive producers for the film
are. As Allen Church and Dale Rosenblooms names are written above the 2 other
executive producers it suggests these 2 have more authority over the others. The coexecutive producers role is to work alongside the executive producers and producers
to guarantee the film is produced succesfully and manage time-keeping.

The shot makes the audience

aware of the films producers. Their
role is to oversee the whole project,
they work closely alongside the
members of the production team
and cast to ensure everything is
running smootly.

The next shots show the names of the other 3

producers in the film. Because their names
are shown in a separate shot together it could
assume they are less significant directors
compared to Jeff Graup and Micheal J. Luisi.

This shot tells us who the films storyline was created by.

audience aware of who was
accountable for the films
screenplay. The person
responsible for the films
screenplay Richard Dovidio
is also one of the people who
was responsible for the films
story.

This shows who directed the

film, it is the last name shown
in the credits which highlights
how significant Brad
Andersons role was during
the films production. Brad
Andersons role in the film
would be to control all the
films aspects whilst guiding
the crew and cast members.
