EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY (EEO)

Consistent with its obligations under applicable state and federal laws and regulations, the Falls
Church City School Board is committed to providing qualified individuals access to all
employment programs, benefits, and activities on the basis of demonstrated ability, performance,
and merit, without regard to personal factors that are irrelevant to the program involved.

The Falls Church City Public Schools will adhere to a policy of equal employment opportunities
for all employees. It is the policy of the Board not to discriminate against any employee because
of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, disability, marital status, sexual orientation,
service in the uniformed services or pregnancy, childbirth or other related medical conditions.
Discrimination against any person shall be prohibited in recruitment, advertising, examination,
appointment, training, promotion, retention, assignments, discipline, reduction in force and
termination, and any other aspect of personnel administration for any of the above-listed reasons,
because of an employee's exercise of his/her First Amendment rights, or because of other non-
merit factors.

The following statement shall be placed on all employment application forms and shall
be disseminated throughout the Falls Church City Public Schools:

"In accordance with federal, state and local laws, the Falls Church City School Board is

religion, national origin, sex, age, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, service in

The Superintendent will emphasize in employment advertisements, notices, and other means
used that the Falls Church City Public Schools considers all candidates on a fair and equal basis
in recruitment and selection.

The School Board assures all employees of equal opportunities for promotion and additional
responsibilities within the school division. Advancement and professional skills development
within the division will be based upon the employee's qualifications, achievement, willingness
and ability to assume a position of more responsibility, and the availability of such opportunities.

Supervisory personnel will adhere to this policy and will be informed of their responsibilities in
the areas of human relations and equal employment opportunity requirements

An employee who alleges a violation of this policy may process a complaint in accordance with
the grievance procedure in Policies 8.36 and 8.37.

The School Board recognizes that any candidate for a position with the school division who
believes that he/she has been denied employment for a discriminatory reason in violation of this
policy has the right to file a complaint with state and federal agencies and may have other
remedies as provided by law.
