Safeguard our Oceans

Pollution, climate change, overfishing, and other problems are overwhelming our oceans. Working together is the only way, the best way, to make a difference. Here is what we can do
to save our oceans.

Avoid plastic products - Millions of marine animals are killed every year due to plastic materials that end up as ocean debris. To limit the impact, carry a reusable water bottle,
store food in non-disposable containers, carry reusable bags when shopping and recycle whenever possible.

Make sustainable seafood choices - Due to heavy demand and unsustainable fishing practices, global fish population is rapidly declining. While shopping or dining out, avoid
opting for overexploited species as food choices.

Avoid purchasing items that exploit marine life. Coral jewelry, tortoiseshell hair accessories (made from hawksbill turtles), and shark products, are best left where they belong!

Support in taking care of the beach. Explore and appreciate the ocean without interfering with wildlife or removing rocks and coral. Encourage others to respect the marine
environment or participate in local beach cleanup drives.
Be an ocean-friendly pet owner. Read pet food labels and consider seafood sustainability when choosing a diet for your pet. Avoid stocking your aquarium with wild-caught
saltwater fish, and never release any aquarium fish into the ocean, a practice that can introduce non-native species harmful to the existing ecosystem.
Support organizations working to protect the ocean. Organizations are fighting to protect marine wildlife. Support a national organization and consider financial support and
volunteering for hands-on work. If you live near the coast, join a local branch and get involved in projects close to your house

Influence change in community. Consider restaurants and grocery stores that offer only sustainable seafood, and speak up if you spot a threatened species on the menu or at the
seafood counter.

Educate yourself on marine life. Life on Earth began in the ocean. The more you are aware about the issues facing this vital system, the more youll want to safeguard its health.
Spread the knowledge to educate and inspire others.
Travel the ocean maturely. Practice responsible boating, and other leisure activities on the water. Dont throw anything overboard, and be conscious of marine life in the waters
around you. For your next vacation, do research to find the most eco-friendly option and support natural tourism drives and initiatives.
