Associate dean
at MU School
of Medicine
steps down after
fifteen years
Michael Hosokawa will
stay on as a full-time
professor of medicine.

After 15 years as the associ-
ate dean for curriculum for
the MU School of Medicine,
Michael Hosokawa has decided
to step down from his position,
a news release from the School
of Medicine said.
He will continue his duties
as a full-time professor of fam-
ily and community medicine.
Linda Headrick, the senior
associate dean for education
and faculty development, will
chair the search committee,
according to the release.
Hosokawa announced his
decision in a note to the dean’s
office staff, saying: “It feels
like a good time to look for
some new turns in the road and
set some new goals,” according
to the release.
While he was associate
dean, Hosokawa made many
contributions and innovations
to the School of Medicine
that benefited both the school
and its students, the release
said. Some of the innovations
include the Mini-Medical
School where high school stu-
dents have the opportunity to
see what medical school is like;
Jumpstart, a week of prepa-
ration for students who are
about to begin their first year
of medical school; and, most
recently, the creation of elec-
tronically assisted, problem-
based learning.
Hosokawa will continue as
the associate dean until a new
one is appointed.

Marjorie Sable has been
named the new director for
the School of Social Work, said
Stephen Jorgensen, the dean of
MU’s College of Human Envi-
ronmental Sciences.
Sable is the associate dean of
Research and Graduate Studies
and a professor of social work.
The decision was announced
in an e-mail to colleagues on
July 14 and announced publicly
