Mounting instructions

Upright mounting

1) A minimum clearance of 30 mm is recommended between contactor types

3TF44 or larger as well as between 3TK4 and 3TK5 in order to simplify the
replacement of the laterally mounted auxiliary switches.

The following contactors can also be supplied for use in the upright position.
In this case the Order No. must be supplemented with "-Z" and the order
code "B01".

2) If the contactors are mounted at a 90 angle (conducting paths

horizontally one above the other), the following reductions apply:
Operating

frequency:
3TK52 and 3TK54 80% of the standard value

Mechanical
endurance:

3TF50 to 3TF57 8 million operating cycles for

3TK56 50% of the standard value

3) No deviations from the vertical axis are allowed for reversing operation
without a mechanical interlock.
4) 3TK1: upright mounting also permissible.

The rated operational current Ie

for the AC-4 utilization category
(breaking six times the rated
operational current) is designed
for a contact endurance of
approximately 200 000
operating cycles.

For mixed operation, i.e. normal

switching (breaking the rated
operational current according to
the AC-3 utilization category) in
combination with intermittent
inching (breaking several times
the rated operational current
according to the AC-4 utilization
category), the contact endurance
can be calculated approximately
from the following equation:

Endurance of the main contacts

The characteristic curves show
the contact endurance of the

resistive and inductive threephase loads (AC-1/AC-3),
depending on the breaking

Positively driven operation of the contacts

The contactor relays fulfil the conditions for positively driven operation as required by the safety rules for
control units on power-operated presses in the metal-working industry (ZH1/457) and also correspond to the
accident prevention regulations of the Schweizer Unfallversicherungsanstalt (Swiss institute for accident
insurance). There is positively driven operation if it is ensured that the NC and NO contacts cannot be closed
at the same time.
Basic unit or cabinet unit

ZH1/457, SUVA

ZH1/457, SUVA

Contact endurance for AC-15/AC-14

and DC-13 utilization categories
The contact endurance is mainly dependent on the breaking current. It is assumed that the operating
mechanisms are switched randomly, i.e. not synchronized with the phase angle of the supply system.
If magnetic circuits other than the contactor coil systems or solenoid valves are present, e.g. magnetic
brakes, protective measures for the load circuits are necessary.
RC elements and freewheeling diodes would be suitable as protective features.
