Seminars add value to farm show

Presentations
focus on threetier objective
BY JENNIFER COYNE
Staff writer

Every year, the Central Minnesota

Farm Show provides an opportunity for
producers to gather and evaluate different ways to improve their farming operations.
On Feb. 23-25, area farmers will
once again gather for the 2016 show at
the Rivers Edge Convention Center in
St. Cloud, Minn.
This is the second year the show
will provide seminars throughout each
day. The objective of each presentation
is so attendees may gain insight into
bettering their farm, given certain circumstances.
Our goal is to provide added value
to the farm show, Bernie Quist said.
Weve coordinated seminars that will
touch on a theme for each day, including marketing, risk management and
profitability.
Quist has been a member of the
agriculture committee of the St. Cloud
Chamber for more than 30 years, help-

ing coordinate the Central Minnesota

Farm Show one of the areas largest
agricultural events.
Each seminar will take place at
10:30 a.m. and then again at 1:30 p.m.,
allowing producers the opportunity to
attend while also visit with vendors
throughout the day. All presentations
will provide time for interactive conversation.
Tuesdays two seminars will focus on risk management Carrying
the load: Is your equipment fit for the
road? and Biosecurity on the farm:
Keeping a healthy and safe environment.
These presentations will highlight
risks for the farm that could create major costs to the producer, Quist said.
Minnesota State Patrol Officer
Steve Krueger will speak of the rules
and regulations of moving product to
and from the farm, while a panel of individuals from different sectors of animal agricultural will discuss their experiences with managing biosecurity risk.
The panel will allow attendees to
hear about different situations, but also
have time for questions and answers,
Quist said. We want to be able to address the issues that are on the mind of
our guests.
The following day will encompass

market outlooks and profitability.

Kristie Van Ahn-Kjeseths presentation, More Yield-More Profit: Grain
and livestock market outlook, will encompass the current markets and how
producers can best strategize for success.
Presented by Ag Resources Consulting, It all starts in the dirt, will

discuss the choices and opportunity

available to build soil fertility and
maintain soil health.
Producers will learn more about
the down and dirty to maximize
yields, Quist said.
Only one seminar will be available
on Thursday Planning your legacy.
This presentation is a panel discussion
on how to best plan for transition and
business succession.
The speakers will provide steps,
insights and strategies for successful
farm transition, Quist said.
With each year, the seminars take
on a larger presence at the farm show;
purposefully adding valuable information to the show, complimenting the
services and resources offered by vendors.
The presentation topics were selected based on attendee surveys and
what producers felt were most important to learn more about, said Quist.
Any of these presentations can
fall under a different theme, but we felt
these were most important to our audience, she said. The seminars create a
greater reason to attend the show, with
the intent to expand the knowledge of
individuals to better their farm.
A schedule of the daily seminars
can be found on page 12.

Gilman Co-op
Creamery to
share best sellers
at farm show
BY MISSY MUSSMAN
Staff writer

Gilman Co-op Creamery

may have a new retail store,
but they continue to provide a
variety of services to farmers
including, marketing Grade
A milk and selling feed, farm
supplies,
equipment
and
fertilizers.
They still get a quality
product for a fair market price,
said Adam Bonovsky, manager
of Gilman Co-op Creamery.
Gilman Co-op Creamery
will showcase some of what
they have to offer during the
Central Minnesota Farm Show
on Feb. 23-25 at the Rivers
Edge Convention Center in St.
Cloud, Minn.
Some of the key items
the co-op will be featuring
at the show this year are
skidloader attachments, Agri
Speed Hitches and their latest
product, a litter tiller.
Theyre quality products
every farmer should have,
said Tina Peschl, marketing
specialist for Gilman Co-op
Creamery.
The
skidloader
attachments, which are a big
seller for the co-op, will be on
special at the show.

Adam Bonovsky, manager, and Tina Peschl, marketing specialist, at Gilman Co-op Creamery
stand in front of the new retail store in Gilman, Minn. The creamery will be exhibiting at the
Central Minnesota Farm Show on Feb. 23-25 in St. Cloud, Minn.
We work with Virnig
Manufacturing out of Rice,
Minn., and Messer Repair and
Fabricating out of Sauk Centre,
Minn. They are the best made
attachments on the market at
a good price, Bonovsky said.
Its a quality product and we
sell a lot of them.
The Agri Speed Hitches
will also be on special.
Theyre so simple to use
with one person, Peschl said.
Its easy on the back, you

dont have to get out of the

tractor and it saves time, which
in turn saves money.
However, the new item
on the lot will be a litter tiller,
which spreads, levels and
aerates the bedding to remove
unwanted excess ammonia and
moisture.
Its used a lot on poultry
farms and allows farmers to
reuse the litter, Bonovsky
said. Its an upcoming product
for the poultry industry.

Although there are a

variety of services currently
provided to all their customers,
Gilman Co-op Creamery was
originally founded by mainly
dairy farmers on April 10,
1923.
Since then, they have
expanded their customer basis.
Were basically serving
all farmers and even people
that live in town, Bonovsky
said.
Less than a year ago on

April 10, 2015, the co-op

opened their new retail store
with just under 10,000 square
feet of space.
Our
farmers
were
changing, so we had to change
to meet their needs, Peschl
said.
The new retail store
has everything from farm
equipment and supplies, tires,
hydraulic hoses, hardware,
clothing and even groceries.
The list goes on and on,
Bonovsky said. Were like a
full service center.
Custom ground livestock
feed, custom grain drying and
roasting grain is another large
part of the co-op.
Thats our bread and
butter, Bonovsky said. Were
currently No. 4 in the nation for
feed sales for ADM Alliance
Nutrition.
The products they sell
have provided success for their
co-op, but for Bonovsky, their
customer service is what has
really made them successful.
Thats what sets us apart
from others, and thats what
we pride ourselves on, he
said. Our customers are so
important to us.
For Peschl the farm show
will allow them to speak with
their customers and potential
customers.
We love seeing the ones
we know, and we are looking
forward to meeting new
people, Peschl said. Were
here to help anyway we can.

In the last couple of years, soil health has come to the

a new product line they started
carrying. A Wacker Neuson

Knudtson said.
Woller Equipment will
also have an LS tractor on
display in their booth at the
Central Minnesota Farm Show.
The tradeshow is a great
place to connect with our
customers and show them
the latest products we are
providing, Knudtson said.
As a short line dealer,
Woller Equipment has many
more products than what they
can display at the farm show.
Aside from the LS and Zetor
tractor lines, they carry a
variety of Vermeer and Kuhn

have used inventory including
loaders, buckets, gravity boxes
and much more.

Quality products, service are top priority

Dairyland Supply
to showcase new
equipment
BY JENNIFER COYNE
Staff writer

Since 1974, Dairyland Supply has

provided a superior line of feeding
and manure equipment, coupled with
exceptional service, for livestock
producers in central Minnesota and
the Dakotas ranging from 40-cow to
5,000-cow operations.
The well-known business is eager
to demonstrate their resources at the
Central Minnesota Farm Show on Feb.
23-25 at the Rivers Edge Convention
Center in St. Cloud, Minn.; being the
largest single-display of feed and
manure equipment at the show.
This year, Dairyland Supply will
promote two of their new product lines
the Nuhn Lagoon Crawler and Penta
30 Series Mixers.
Bringing the equipment to the
show will allow customers to kick
the tires and check the quality of the
product instead of watching videos
and reading brochures, John Bieringer
said.
Bieringer is the owner of Dairyland
Supply and also this years chairman of
the trade show.
The farm show will be the Lagoon
Crawlers first appearance at a show; a
first-of-its kind product that Bieringer
believes is an innovation for the manure
industry.
Im really excited about this
product, Bieringer said. Its going to

change the manure industry and how
we agitate lagoons.
Additionally, the Penta 30 Series
Mixers will highlight Dairyland
Supplys vast product line and
knowledge of TMR mixers.
Were currently the largest dealer
of Penta in the U.S., Bieringer said,
and were excited to showcase that in
St. Cloud.
First beginning as a milking
equipment and farmstead dealership,
Bieringer has evolved Dairyland
Supply to exclusively hone in on a
certain customer base; specializing
in TMR mixers with a wide array of
brands to fit different requests, as well
as providing equipment for liquid and
solid manure systems.
I really wanted to focus our
efforts. What sets us apart is what we
specialize in no combines, tractors
or skidloaders, Bieringer said. Our
level of commitment and service helps
make us the largest feed and manure
equipment dealer in Minnesota.
Three years ago, the business
underwent major expansion to
accommodate the demand of their

repair and parts amenities.

We have a great shop and trained
technicians to help with any mechanical
service, Bieringer said. In total, our
experience ranges from a few years to
more than 40. Together, we have a lot
of knowledge to share.
In addition to the new line of
equipment being presented at the show,
Bieringer and the staff
at Dairyland Supply
will reconnect with
valued customers and
work to create new,
lasting relationships.
Many of our
customers are the
third generation on
the family farm,
Bieringer said.
The show will
be an opportunity for
Bieringer to speak
with those customers
whose parents and
grandparents
were
also loyal patrons.

Why do you attend the Central MN Farm Show?

Henry Thell
Freeport
Tell us about yourself and your farming background. I milk 40 cows with
my son, Andrew. Hes been helping me since he graduated high school. We
wanted an opportunity to farm and were giving him that.
How many years have you been going to the Central Minnesota Farm
Show? Ive been going since it was in the Crossroads Center. For the past
five years Andrew has been going with me. We always wanted to go.
Why do you attend the Central Minnesota Farm Show? I like to visit with
friends and neighbors who are there, and also talk with the feed, breeder,
equipment, etc. dealers to see whats new. I talk to as many people as I can.
If its something that deals with my dairy, I try to stop.
What are three things you like to do when you are at the show? I like to visit
with friends. I also like to look at new equipment in a warm environment
and visit with dealers that I do business with and see what they have thats
new.
How does the Central Minnesota Farm Show rate against other shows
you attend? I always attend this one because its in the winter. I also go to
Farmfest. This is one that I rarely miss because its in the winter and I have
more time.
What is something you are looking forward to seeing at this years farm
show?
I will be looking at different cow mats. The show is more for research for
things I might want to incorporate into my dairy down the road. Ive always
been aggressive with new technology. For example, Ive had a TMR since

designed for agitating lagoons.
The wheels are able to drop down, giving the vehicle roughly 5 feet of ground
clearance. The unit then drives itself into a lagoon, where it turns into an agitation boat.
When in the lagoon, the Lagoon Crawler is powered by a quad port, Nuhn Header
Series manure pump. 10000+GPM volumes are used to maneuver the pontoon
through the lagoon and agitate the solids from the bottom. The Nuhn Lagoon
Crawler does not need a priming system.

Once the lagoon is emptied, the four wheels are lowered and the
machine is able to drive itself out of the lagoon.
