COURSE DESCRIPTION
Supply chain management (SCM) is the study of various issues related to transferring or transporting the
materials, information, and finances as they move in a process from supplier to manufacturer to wholesaler
to retailer to consumer. Supply chain management involves coordinating and integrating these flows both
within and between the partnering companies. It is said that the ultimate goal of any supply chain
management system is to reduce inventory, reduce time to the market, by looking into the uncertainties that
may occur at the demand front.
COURSE OBJECTIVE
The course is designed with the following objectives:
1. To acquaint students with all relevant activities associated with the Supply Chain Management and its
role in business.
2. To familiarize students with quantitative and computer based approaches to Material Planning &
Control, together with their practical applications and limitations.
3. To make students aware of contemporary approaches to designing and managing Supply Chain systems.
-22. Apply logistics and purchasing concepts to improve supply chain operations.
3. Demonstrate an overall knowledge of supply chain in the areas of transportation, and purchasing,
inventory management and customer service.
4. Understanding the role of inventory management in overall planning and execution of supply chain
management.
5. Understanding the issues and challenges in warehouse management, itsrole in the allocation and
accumulation of goods in the supply chain.
6. To articulate the consequences of real decisions that impacts the supply chain. These include, but are
not limited to cost, quality, customer service, co-ordination, and outsourcing.

EVALUATION
Exams: There will be two examinations. The first exam will be based on the Sessions 1 through 10
and the second exam will be broadly based on Sessions 11 through 20.
Quizzes and Assignments: Based on the requirements of the course, there will be quizzes and
group/individual assignments.
Class Participation: Students are responsible for all materials covered and readings assigned. Be
prepared to answer certain questions that had been emphasized in prior classes or from the reading
assignments. Your performance and participation will then be used to determine your participation
marks.
