Smart Market Report: Information Mobility

Proved results in the value of information mobility
investments, with contractors reporting:
Shorter schedules by 9%
Project cost decreases of 10%
And increases in project ROI of 2%

Public - Private Partnerships Gaining Momentum

P3s are not privatization
A P3 is a partnership, shared risks and rewards
Major project funding tackled
Unlike privatization, the public sector remains ultimately responsible for the delivery of goods or
services
Control stays with the public sector, ownership stays with the public sector.
This is not privatization
Rick Norment, September 22, 2012

Features of P3s that drive benefits

Improved performance - private-sector partner assumes far more risk and has incentives to meet
schedules
Responsibility for multiple tasksdesign, build, finance, operate, and maintainstretches over a
assets life cycle

Line Girder Analysis

Each physical model member is modeled as a
series of longitudinal straight beam element
Members modeled as longitudinal elements
using composite/non-composite section
properties as the model and/or stage dictates.
All loads are applied directly to the main
members
Distribution factors are automatically computed
from the physical model and applied to the line
girder results along with dynamic allowance

Grillage Analysis
The entire bridge (deck, main
members, cross frames) are modeled
as an assemblage of beam elements
Slab modeled as series transverse
beams with section properties of the
equivalent slab strip
Main members modeled as
longitudinal elements using
composite/non-composite section
properties as the model and/or stage
dictates.
All dead loads are applied directly to
the main members

Constructability - Deck Placement Sequence

Provides means to simulate effects (steel and slab

stresses) of placing slabs as they are actually
poured
Certain sections of the girder may
become composite before other sections,
and temporary responses can be
different than final values.
These responses must be considered
during design

The process is closely tied to Constructibility

checking (6.10.3)

LBS automatically generates stages, load cases

and load combinations. User can add additional
load cases and include in any stage or stages.

Conclusions
LEAP Bridge Steel saves time with efficient 3D bridge modeling, design,
analysis, and load rating of everyday steel bridges
Provides a solution to design both superstructure and substructure in a single
program.
Allows design engineers to quickly investigate multiple design alternatives for
more cost-effective steel-girder design
The cornerstone of BrIM is data mobility and reuse, and LEAP Bridge Steel
was created to take full advantage of this capability by creating information-rich
MicroStation 3D bridge models.
