Communications Officer

Job description
Hours: Full time 37.5 hours per week.
Contract: Temporary until March 31 2016
Location: Holborn, Central London
Salary: 27,000 pro rata
Responsible to: Senior Communications Manager
Purpose
To contribute to the work of the RJCs communications team in promoting the RJC, its products
and services, and restorative justice via internal and external communications, marketing, press,
social media and printed and digital publications.
Cultural expectations
Due to the nature of the organisation going through transition, and flexible working patterns,
you will need to be self-motivated and able to manage your own workload without a lot of
supervision. The line manager for this role works four days a week.
Key Tasks
1. Creating high quality copy for all RJC comms channels including Resolution magazine,
bulletins and website.
2. Developing, creating content for and monitoring the RJCs social media presence.
3. Updating, maintaining and creating content for the RJCs website.
4. Proofreading and formatting documents.
5. Providing pro-active and reactive media relations including scoping contacts and
pitching news stories with national, local and trade press.
6. Sourcing, interviewing and writing case studies.
7. Managing production of printed materials, including liaising with printers, designers and
proofreaders.

8. Any other tasks as reasonably required by the senior communications manager and
chief executive officer.

Person specification
Essential
1. Previous experience in a press, communications, journalism or marketing role.
2. Excellent written and verbal communication skills including strong copywriting, copy
editing and proofing skills and the ability to communicate complex ideas.
3. Experience using social media in a professional context (including Twitter, Facebook,
and LinkedIn).
4. Ability to work effectively under pressure and to tight deadlines.
5. Ability to organise and prioritise your own workload and meet deadlines.
6. Strong attention to detail.
7. Strong IT skills, including website administration, and the ability to apply them to new
and bespoke systems.
8. Strong team working and interpersonal skills.

Desirable
1. Three years or more experience in a related role.
2. Experience of using Adobe InDesign and Adobe PhotoShop or equivalent software.
3. Experience of using Microsoft SharePoint.
4. Experience of using Hootsuite to schedule social media updates.
5. Experience of organising events.
6. Knowledge of restorative justice in practice and theory.
7. Understanding of the criminal justice system and other sectors relevant to restorative
practice.
8. Experience of working in the voluntary sector.
9. Commitment to restorative principles.
