2016 MICHIGAN
RIDE CALENDAR
The Ride Calendar is a signature publication of the League of Michigan Bicyclists
(LMB). It is an essential resource for cycling enthusiasts in Michigan and beyond.
LMB annually publishes and distributes more than 40,000 Ride Calendars, with
support from the Michigan Department of Transportation and our advertisers.
Ride Calendars are annually mailed to all LMB members. This publication is also
available at MDOT Welcome Centers, Convention & Visitors Bureaus, bicycle
shops and at numerous bicycle-related events throughout the year.

LMB TOURS & EVENTS

Join us in 2016 as we cycle Michigans canopied forest roads, past
beautiful inland lakes and along picturesque Great Lakes shorelines.
Our bicycle tours are a major funding source for LMBs efforts to
promote bicycling and the safety of bicyclists on Michigan roadways.
In addition to our tours, LMB also hosts an annual Advocacy Day at
the State Capitol (see ad on pg. 7). Please support our bicycle
education, advocacy and promotion efforts by participating in 2016.

$ 1 PER RIDER EVENTS

This year, 71 events have pledged to donate $1 for every participating rider. We are extremely grateful for their generous contributions.
These dollars add up quickly, providing LMB with essential funding
that helps us advocate for a more bicycle-friendly Michigan. By
choosing $1 Per Rider events, you will be supporting our efforts to
make Michigan bicycling better. The complete list of $1 Per Rider
events is on pg. 4. They are also highlighted (in blue) throughout the
publication.

STATEWIDE:

Wednesday,
May 18, 7PM
The Ride of Silence exists:
to HONOR those who have

been injured or killed

to RAISE AWARENESS that
we are here
to ask that we all SHARE THE
ROAD.

On May 18th, cyclists in Michigan

will take to the road, joining our
brothers and sisters across the
globe in the 2016 Ride of Silence
(RoS), a silent procession to honor
friends and family who have been
killed or injured while cycling on
public roads. RoS is a free ride that
asks cyclists to ride no faster than
12 mph and remain silent. Rides
are typically 8 to 12 miles long. RoS,
which is held during Bike Month,
aims to raise awareness of motorists, public safety and city officials
that cyclists have a legal right to the
road. Check the RoS website for full
details, locations and local contact
information.

rideofsilence.org
The first RofS was organized in
Dallas, TX in 2003, when a nationally
ranked endurance cyclist was killed.
With each passing year, the RofS
continues to grow. In 2015, the RofS
took place in 343 locations worldwide, in 49 states and Washington,
D.C., in 20 countries and on all seven
continents. Michigan led the world
with 28 locations.
Helmets are mandatory. Lights
are suggested. Please arrive and be
ready to ride by 6:30 PM. All rides
depart at 7:00 PM.

share the road promotions and
other varied celebrations of cycling in
