enforce the rights given to them by law .Lok Adalat is one of the alternate dispute redressal
forms to provide qualitative and speedy justice to a comman man.

my analysis is descriptive and analytical .While researching on the topic, various books and
internet sources have been consulted. For thorough study of project topic, all the possible
means and reasons have been used. The project topic has been elaborated to best of

LITERATURE REVIEW
While executing the project following books will be used:
1. DR.S.S.SHARMA,Legal services, Public interest litigation.
The book covers each and every aspect of legal aid. I hope the book will be of immense help
and quite useful for my project.
2. MAMTA RAO,PIL: Legal Aid and Lok Adalats.
In this book latest decisions of Supreme Court and High Courts have been incorporated. The
book has an extensive revision and broader scope on Law relating to Legal aid and Lok
Adalats.

INTRODUCTION
"Public interest Litigation", in simple words, means, litigation filed in a court of law, for the
protection of "Public Interest." It is litigation introduced in a court of law, not by the
aggrieved party but by the court itself or by any other private party. Public interest litigation is
the power given to the public by courts through judicial activism. However, the person filing
the petition must prove to the satisfaction of the court that the petition is being filed for a
public interest and not just as a frivolous litigation by a busy body.
Legal aid is the provision of assistance to people otherwise unable to afford legal
representation and access to the court system. Legal aid is regarded as central in providing
access to justice by ensuring equality before the law.
The introduction of Lok Adalats added a new chapter to the justice dispensation system of
this country and succeeded in providing a supplementary forum to the victims for satisfactory
settlement of their disputes. Lok Adalat is one of the alternate dispute redressal forms to
provide qualitative and speedy justice to a common man, thus it means a place of justice for a
common man.
