Dear Zalia,
How are you enjoying your holidays? I hope you had a blast with your family in
Penang. I have just returned from the land of kimchi. Thats right, my family and
I went to South Korea! We spent six wonderful days there. Let me tell you a bit
about my holiday.
As soon as we stepped out of the plane, we could feel the chilly weather to our
bones. As we have never experienced that kind of weather, my siblings
and I were very excited. Passing through immigration and baggage
claim , we were talking animatedly about our new surroundings
. Since we went with a tour group, we knew that we were in good hands.
I experienced many new things there. Firstly, I love food so it is such a
pleasure to try authentic Korean food. We all tried kimchi, a spicy and
sour vegetable side dish . Being Malaysian, we were used to rice, so it was a
good thing that the Korean meal included rice and a few other side
dishes, eaten from a Bento box . There was also hot and scrumptious
miso soup together with the meal.
One of the highlights of our holiday was skiing. Everybody from the tour

group was looking forward to that, even the 52-year old couple travelling with us.
After grabbing our ski gear , we listened to a briefing by the
instructor . After that, I sat in the cable car with my hyperactive
sister, who could barely contain her excitement . Although we
were quite wobbly in the beginning, we sucessfully skied
down a slope. Soon we became quite good at it!
Every day, when we arrived at the hotel after skiing, we were exhausted
and starving . Instant noodles saved the day! We all ate curry-flavoured
ramen together, savouring the taste. After dinner, we often go for a walk to enjoy
the amazing view of the mountains at night, and breathing the cool, fresh winter
air.
Shopping in Korea was also different compared to Malaysia. We found
shopping at their markets more enjoyable compared to the big shopping
malls. This is because we could haggle the price and there was a huge
variety of products, some of which I have never seen in my life! Apart from
that, I also liked their wet markets because they were very clean and they did not
have that fishy smell .
But I guess the best thing about the trip was that we got to spent quality time
together as a family. We learned countless new things about one another and
even discovered hidden talents . We definitely became
closer. My father always said we should travel with an open mind and an open
heart. He was right as he usually was.
Thats all for now. In your next letter, tell me about your holiday in Penang.
Your friend,
Jasmine
