COURSE DESCRIPTION
This workshop is designed to develop essential Leadership skills among the participants of PGP-I.
Extant literature on leadership theories is diffuse with both trait and state approaches finding
support. In practice however, there exist certain universally accepted leadership qualities, like selfawareness, interpersonal effectiveness, motivational abilities and crisis management among
others. The workshop will focus on some of these qualities and sensitize participants on essentials
of leadership. The workshop will adopt an experiential approach emphasizing participant-centric
pedagogies and will involve mentors selected from among PGP-II students.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
The workshop aims to develop essential leadership skills among the participants and will focus on
emerging challenges of leaders in business organizations. The leadership development process
involves evaluating ones own interpersonal skills and this course will allow participants to reflect
on their own styles and preferences and learn through a process of self-awareness. Essential
qualities of leaders that will be covered through this workshop include interpersonal skills,
communication (presentation / oratory) skills, audience captivation, emotional intelligence, crisis
management, and motivating team members. The workshop concludes by enabling participants to
put together a personal development plan.

will involve mentors selected from among PGP-II students. Sessions can happen in the classroom
or in the field depending on the activities involved.
Mentors
The PGP office will invite applications from PGP-II participants who will take up mentorship roles
in the workshop. A committee constituted by the Director / Chair (PGP) will select mentors from
among the applications received.
Each PGP-II participant who is selected will be assigned one group of 12 (divided into 3 groups of
4 participants each for a few activities) participants as his/her mentee group. The mentor will
guide the group through the various activities in the workshop. Each mentor will conduct 10
sessions with the mentee group allotted to him / her. The 10 sessions will be spread through the
course of the academic year and will be scheduled by the PGP office. The mentors will also grade
the assignments conducted during the workshop and give a detailed written feedback to each
mentee on several pre-decided parameters like communication skills, crisis handling, motivational
abilities etc. The mentor is expected to maintain notes with the performance and development
areas of each mentee. These notes and report will be shared with the faculty supervisor. Mentors
are expected to observe the behavior of mentees in and outside the classroom.
Each mentor will be awarded 2 credits (workshop type) in the 6th term of the PGP.
Faculty Supervisor
Each faculty supervisor will be allotted upto 5 mentors (PGP-II) and hence can be supervising upto
60 PGP-I participants. The faculty supervisors will conduct 4 to 5 meetings with the mentors and
respective mentee group in which they will review progress of the participants and provide
feedback to the mentors. The faculty supervisor will be required to attend at least one class room
session with each mentor group. The faculty supervisors will award the grades at the end of the
