The Unión Musical San Fulgencio is an independent non-profit association for the
purpose of disseminating music in San Fulgencio.
Since it was founded in 1986, the Unión Musical San Fulgencio has continued to
develop this activity, so that over time it has been awarded many prizes and has
brought honour to San Fulgencio. Since 1994, when the association was accepted as
a member of the Federation of Music Societies in the Valencian Community (FSMCV),
it has participated in various competitions and contests, including representing the
province of Alicante in the Valencian Community competion. Last year it was awarded
the first prize in the provincial competion for bands in Alicante province.
The association includes more than 150 members who support it, a music school
with more than 50 registered pupils and, most importantly, a symphonic band with
more than 50 registered members, all of whom are amateurs.
Our music school, the activites of which are carried out at our own Music Centre, is
recognised by the Councillor for Education in the Ministry of Education of the
Government of Spain. It is also a member of the network of music schools in the
Valencian Community.
The Unión Musical San Fulgencio has always been open to any resident of San
Fulgencio who wishes to come and rehearse with us in our symphonic band. We also
would like to point out that all of our concerts are gratis, so that anyone can come to
enjoy our playing, whether she/he is a member or not.
Of course, the work of the Unión Musical San Fulgencio has been and still is very
important in our municipality since it has become a musical reference for San
Fulgencio and has formed a large family within an environment of music. For all this:
Congratulations!

24th Anniversary of the Unión Musical San Fulgencio
This coming first of May will be the 24th birthday of the Unión
Musical San Fulgencio. For this reason we will offer all the citizens
of San Fulgencio, and especially our members who collaborate with
us, a concert to celebrate this date. On the first of May 1986, the
Unión Musical San Fulgencio carried out its very first parade
through the streets of San Fulgencio. The wind band had been
formed from over 60 boys and girls of the village by the conductor
Don Ventura Cartagena Guirao. The president of the society was
the late Don Rafael Belmonte Andreu. Many of those boys and girls
24th Anniversary have continued to play in the wind band or they are now parents

The 39th edition of the international wind band competition ”Vila de

Altea” will be dedicated to the Peoples of the Americas
The 39th edition of the international wind band competition ”Vila de Altea”,
which is organised by the Sociedad Filharmónica Alteanense and which will be
celebrated on the 4th and 5th of December, will be dedicated to the Peoples of
the Americas. Therefore the organizing committee has asked the composers
Oscar Navarro González from Novelda and José Suñer Oriola from Valencia to
write the obligatory pieces for the two sections, Primera and Sinfónica,
respectively, based on this theme this year.
On this past March 26 at the Palau Altea there was a presentation about the
rules of this competition. The chosen composers also spoke about their
compositions. Navarro explained that his work, called ”Libertadores” or
Liberators, is divided into two parts, ”The primary inspiration is the Amazon river
and the second is a fanfare dedicated to the liberators of the Americas”. Suñer,
for his part, said that his work, called ”Venus da la luces” or Venus of the
morning stars, is his symphony number two which is based on ”an ancient
Certamen Internacional mythology concerning the Mexican lands which reflect the duality between light
Vila d’Altea 2010 and shadows.”
The competition maintains its usual structure where the musical groups that
will participate in the Primera section will have a maximum of 85 musicians while
those in the Sinfónica section will have at most 135 musicians. Four bands are
expected to compete in the first mentioned section and three in the latter
section.

“More than Music” declaration of support by the FSMCV

At midday on this past sixth of March at the Micalet Theatre in Valencia, The Federation of Music Societies in the
Valencian Community (FSMCV) presented its declaration of support entitled ”Mes que Música” or More than Music. With it,
the FMSCV expects to achieve the support of persons, organizations, and entities to guarantee the future of a universal
heritage which touches every one of the people living in Valencia.

This event was presented by the actress Pilar Almería in a ceremony which included the preformances by two groups
belonging to these musical societies, the Púrpura Pansa saxophone quartet and a clarinet group from the Unión Musical
Santa Cecilia de Moncofa.

Three former students of the schools of music belonging to the CIAC de la Vall d'Uixió, the Unió Musical de Ondara and
the Agrupació Musical de Beneixida carried out the public reading of this declaration of support, which is now available in
several languages on the web-site of the FSMCV: www.fsmcv.org

Duato will leave the National Dance Company during the coming month of July

Nacho Duato, the director of the National Dance

Company (CND) has decided not to sign the extension
offered by the Ministry of Culture on behalf of the
National Institute for the Arts, Science and Music

Improved web-site for the Unión Musical San Fulgencio

The Unión Musical San Fulgencio has improved its web-site, which was already becoming old-fashioned.
Now various applications have been added to enable, for example, the listening of podcasts without the
necessity of downloading, a new service of videos online, etc.
Each time we have continued to improve so that our friends can enjoy the music of the Unión Musical
San Fulgencio, not only in San Fulgencio itself but also wherever they are in the world. Already our web-
site has been visited from more than 25 different countries. Even though it is not 100% operational yet,
we hope to finalise the implementation of the new web-site by the end of the month.
