Goals & Restrictions

1. Advertise loopback with their original mask. (X= Rack no, Y=Device no)

a. Use 200.200.200.XY/32 for all loopback 0 in all routers

b. -

2. Network 0.0.0.0/0 SHALL not appear in any routing table

3. Don’t use “ip default network”

4. All IP Address used in the topology MUST be accessible

5. Use conventional routing algorithms

Diagram Details:

• Configure R1, R2, R3, R6 Only

STEP 1 - R1, R3, R2 ONLY

• Configure R3 as frame relay switch

• Configure R1 & R2 as frame relay DTEs.

• Lmi type between R1 & R3 is ANSI; LMI type between R3 & R 2 is Cisco

• Do below show commands in all 3 routers:

o Show frame-relay pvc

o Show frame-relay lmi

o Show frame route

o Show frame map

o Show interface serial ______

o show frame-relay traffic

• Ping between R1 and R2 . MUST be successful

• Do all the above show commands in all 3 routers

• Do the below steps:

o debug frame-relay lmi

o clear frame-relay-inarp

o Show frame map

• Undebug all; Document your findings

• Change in R1 & R2 with “ no frame-relay inverse-arp”; make the ping work.

• DO all above show commands in all 3 routers:

• Debug frame packet; reset frame interface; capture successful frame packets
exchange;

• Undebug all; Document your findings

• Change frame relay encapsulation to IETF ( with & without “no frame-relay
inverse-arp”)

• DO all above show commands in all 3 routers:

• Debug frame packet; reset frame interface; capture successful frame packets
exchange;

• Undebug all; Document your findings

• Configure compression in R1 frame relay circuit with stac algorithm

o show interfaces serial

o clear compress

o show compress

o debug compress

STEP 2 R6 only

• Configure the frame relay configuration in router R6.

• NO need to configure BB1.

• Use point-to-point sub-interfaces in R6.

• PING ALL 3 subnets BB1 IP address from R6

• DO all show commands

• Debug frame packet; reset frame interface; capture successful frame packets
exchange;

• Undebug all

STEP 3

• Shutdown frame-relay DTE interface from all the previous configurations

• Configure the NEW frame relay configuration as the above diagram.

o Full Mesh Frame Relay Topology

o Hub & spoke partial mesh topology

o You only need to configure Frame-relay DTE

• DO NOT use any subinterfaces in any routers

• Use Static route only.

o Use specific static route that required only.

• Do below show commands in all 4 routers:

o Show frame-relay pvc

5 | Page
CDP - CCIE LAB Preparation Program (CLPP) IMS Asia Sdn Bhd.
o Show frame-relay lmi

o Show frame route

o Show frame map

o Show interface serial ______

• PING all the IP address from anyway including the loopback IPs.

STEP 4

• Re-Configure the frame relay configuration as the above diagram.

o Full Mesh Frame Relay Topology

o Hub & spoke partial mesh topology

• Use Subinterfaces in R1 & R2 only.

• Re-Use Static routes only.

o Re-use specific static route that required only.

• Do below show commands in all 4 routers:

o Show frame-relay pvc

o Show frame-relay lmi

o Show frame route

o Show frame map

o Show interface serial ______

• PING all the IP address from anyway including the loopback IPs.

STEP 5

• Document your observation

Answer below Questions:

1. What is size of DLCI field in Frame-relay Header ? __________ bits

2. What is the purpose of DLCI field ?

6 | Page
CDP - CCIE LAB Preparation Program (CLPP) IMS Asia Sdn Bhd.
a. Logical Circuit ID
b. Traffic rate
c. Flag

3. Type of LMIs
a. Cisco
b. Ansi
c. Q933a

4. An interface is by default a "multipoint" or “point-to-point” interface ?

5. In Multi-point interface is frame-relay inverse-arp is ON or OFF ?

6. In Point-to-point interface, is there is Inverse ARP used?

7. You can configure Frame Relay subinterfaces in point-to-point mode only

(TRUE or FALSE)

8. IP split horizon checking is enabled or disabled by default for Frame Relay

encapsulation?

9. When remote router does not support Inverse ARP, you must define the
address-to-DLCI table statically. (TRUE or FALSE)

10. Multipoint subinterfaces act like NBMA networks, as such they (do or do
not?) resolve the split-horizon issues.

11.Multipoint interface require configuration of multiple subnets

12.Multipoint is applicable to point-to-point , partial mesh and full mesh

topologies. (TRUE/FALSE)

13.Describe meanings of “dynamic”, “broadcast” , “active” ?
