Deskripsi singkat:

Biodiversity is a valuable biological assets in every ecosystems which have to


be preserved. One kind of ecosystem which holds a massive number of
biodiversity is the quarry ecosystem. It is then required to create an effective and
efficient way to raise the awarness of preserving the biodiversity among the
society around the quarry.
Children are part of the society which actually plays an improtant role in
preserving the biodiversity wether in the present or in the future. Children ae
easier to acquire an information if the information is demosntrated and
transferred in a fun way. One example is by using an educative game as a
learning media. Snake and ladder is a familiar game which can be modified into
an educative game, besides it is also cheap and easy to make. Therfore, it is very
suitable to be turned into an educative game which able to educate children
about biodiversity preservation.
Snake and ladder game has never been used to educate children about
biodiversity and the necessity to preserve them. This game will transfer the
information about biodiversity to children in a fun way, and furthermore raise the
awarness among the children to contribute in the biodiversity preservation.

Deskripsi lengkap+tujuan:
According to World Wildlife Fund biodiversity includes million plants, animals, and
microorganisms along with ecosystems which forms a living environment.
Biodiversity plays an important role and it has an obvious impact towards the
humans life. Because every organisms on earth actually take their part in
supporting and preserve the nature balance.
One of the ecosystem that has to be preserve is the quarry. The Quarry has
numerous valuable plants and animals, therefore their existence have to be
preserved not only by the mining industry as the main stake holder but also by
the society around the quary as well. Because it is impossible for the industry to
do the biodiversity conservation responsibility without any support from people
around the place. Thus, it is very important for the people to understand about
the importance of biodiversity and the impacts towards their life.
Children are part of society who lived around the quarry. Children age is the best
time to give education about various information and good habits. Children are
tend to have a better cognitive development. Therfore it is considered as the
best time to give education about biodiversity and their role, and also our efforts
to preserve them. Snake and ladder is a common traditional game for children.
Snake and ladder is a cooperative game which is cheap, easy to make, simple
and fun. This game can make children become enthusiastic in learning, therefore
it is very suitable to become a biodiversity learnig media for children.

Snake and ladder has never been used to educate children about biodiversity.
Therefore, according to the explanation above it is necessary to do a strategic
and effective way in raising the knowledge and awareness of children about
biodiversity around the quarry. Children around the quarry plays important part
in the biodiversity conservation. The most basic thing is how we can educate
them effectively so they will become aware and willing to take part in the
biodiversity conservation. One of the way is by designing an educative game like
a modified snake and ladder game which cotains the information about
biodiversity and how we can preserve it.
The short and mid term targets that we want to achive in this project is that
children can understand well about biodiversity and the urgency to preserve it.
While the long term target is that the children become aware, so that they will be
motivated to join the biodiversity conservation efforts, starting with simple acts
like no littering, and the that act will soon become more massive in the future
like joining theirself in a rehabilitation movement around the quarry. Another long
term target is that this game can promote Indocement as a cement company
which care about biodiversity preservation and the children education.
This research is aimed to: 1) know the best game concept in order to raise the
children knowledge and awarness about biodiversity 2) to konw the effect of the
game towards the children knowledge and awarness about biodiversity 3) to
know the best indicators which can indicate the success of this game in raising
the children knowledge and awarness about biodiversity.

RESEARCH METHOD
A. Tools and Material

Tools needed are one set modified snake and ladder game called as The Adventure of Si
Indo, writing utensils, camera and recorder. Materials needed are questionaires dan
respondents. The amount of respondents are 28 children at the age of 8-11.

A 20 minutes pre test is given before the game begin


A set of The Adventure of Si Indo game is allotted to four child to play.
An explanation about on how to assemble the game is given as part of preparation.
Game rules is explained and demonstrated to each player.
After the game is completed, a 20 minutes post test is given to each player
interview and questionaires filling is then given after the post test

Data analysis

Each correct answer for pre-test and post-test will be given 1 point, while wrong
answer will be given 0 point. Then data is then tested statistically using Paired
T-Test to find out the effect of independent variable (snake and ladder
modification game tool) towards dependant variable (kids knowledge and
awareness to biodiversity) using 0,05 alpha value (Labibah et al., 2010).

There are 5 students who will be directly involved n this research project, they
are:

Other people who will be involved in this project are: Chlidren age 8-11 who lives
around the quarry (as the main respondents) and teachers (as the supporting
respondents). We are also planning to consult this project with experts like
children psychologist and graphic designer.

Jadwal
This reserach is estimated for 25 days, started from May. The schedule are:
1. First week: Materials preparation, location surveys, respondents data colecting
2 Second week: Field research execution which includes the snake and ladder
execution, distribution and evaluation of the pre and post test, interview, and
status report organizing.
3. Third week: Data analysis, progress report, dan documentation
4. Fourth week: Final report and final documentation

Nilai tambah:
For the society this research project will give the basic knowledge about
biodiversity and the urgency to preserve it towards the children. That knowledge
will then raise the awareness so that they become enthusiast an motivated to
contribute themself in the biodiversity preservation efforts through simple acts
every day. This good change among the children will then also affect their
parents, so there will be a some sort of a chain reaction, where the parent will
also become motivated to preserve the biodiversity as what their children had

done. In the future, the basic knowledge that the children have recieved can be
implemented in bigger actions.
For the company, this modified snake and ladder game can become a cheap and
effective advertising and communication media mainly towards the chlidren and
schools around the quarry. Because in each game set, the company logo will be
attached and displayed wether on the game arena or on Si Indo as the mascot.
For the long term plan, this game can help reducing the company cost to
socialize the the importance of biodiversity towards the society
it can be imagined if each family has their own child who is aware in preserving
biodiversity,then in the future, all families around the quarry will have the same
awareness to preserve the biodiversity

the estimate cost needed for this proect is 5 million IDR, which includes:
1. Materials and tools cost: 2,5 million IDR
2. `transport cost: 1,5 million IDR
3. Miscelaneous cost: 1 million IDR
The estimated time needed for the project is 25 days and with, wtih 5 people
involved as the main researcher.
