EVENT MANAGEMENT - Greening an Event: A Case Study
The last Think Green Music Festival had a divergence rate of 95% - meaning only 5%
of the event’s waste went to landfill. Requiring recyclable and compostable materials
from vendors, managing waste areas, and making sure vendors and attendees know
about the event’s green initiatives were part of this success. But that’s just on the
day of the event. An effective green event plan will consider energy consumption and
waste in pre-event planning and promotions, such as developing a set of sustainable
standards with the client for the venue, vendors, advertising activities and more.

Presenter:
John Franco is creative director/partner of ROAR Design & Events and produces the
Think Green Music Festival in Napa. John is a graphic communications specialist providing
brand identity design and creative marketing solutions for event and corporate business.
He hosts Napa Green Drinks, an informal monthly networking event for people who are
interested in all things sustainable, and helped develop Napa Valley Life Magazine’s
